In bin picking – also known as “random bin picking” – a robot removes unsorted parts from a container and feeds them for further processing. Liebherr-Verzahntechnik GmbH is a pioneer in the industrial application of this sophisticated technology. Here‘s a look at the history of the successful technology and its future potential.

At the Teisnach plant of the Rohde & Schwarz technology group, the PHS 1500 Allround pallet handling system from Liebherr-Verzahntechnik GmbH automates four HF 5500 5-axis machining centers from Heller. This has not only made it possible to integrate a wide variety of parts on an interlinked production system, but has also significantly reduced part throughput times.

As in all industries, gear cutting specialists have to keep up with the latest technological developments. At the Machine Training Center (MTC) in Kempten, Liebherr experts teach the necessary know-how on site or online: professional and practical training courses on operation and maintenance help participants get the most out of their Liebherr machines.

During gear shaping of double helical gears, the exact positioning of both gears in relation to each other is often very work-intensive. Liebherr-Verzahntechnik GmbH has taken up this challenge and is expanding its technology portfolio for the production of double helical gears.

Liebherr-Verzahntechnik GmbH has agreed on a strategic cooperation with Jonas & Redmann - a specialist in automation solutions of battery cells and modules - to create automation systems. Together, the two companies cover the entire service range; from assembly of battery cells via modules to high-voltage battery packs. Their focus will be on module and package assembly, while Liebherr will focus on module to pack assembly and assuming the role of general contractor.

In October 2021, the measuring technology department moved into new premises at Liebherr‘s Ettlingen site. In addition to spacious offices, there is now also room for training courses and customer demonstrations as well as a development lab with state-of-the-art equipment. Measuring technology is an integral part of Liebherr-Verzahntechnik GmbH – this has long been the case and is now visible to the outside.

For a long time now, Liebherr-Verzahntechnik GmbH has offered its customers a reconditioning service for gear cutting tools at its Ettlingen site. This service is now even more convenient for regular users, because it now includes a simple, regular pickup service.
