Smart Liebherr cranes: Intelligent assistance systems for new crane generations
- Increased safety for people and sensitive components thanks to sway-free load lifting and semi-automated lifts
- Available for new generation of cranes with improved performance, new control system and new operating system
- Assistance systems available for K and L series fast-erecting cranes
Liebherr will be presenting its intelligent assistance systems for fast-erecting cranes together with its new K series cranes at Bauma 2025 in Munich.
Liebherr’s new assistance systems for tower cranes are designed to increase construction site safety for people and materials, and make crane operation more convenient and efficient. Visitors to the trade show will be able to see the new assistance systems for themselves for the first time.
Assistance systems simplify everyday work on site
There are currently five assistance systems available for Liebherr tower cranes. Sway Control is already familiar from the new L series launched in 2024, and now four more systems are being added for L and K crane models.
Sway Control Plus supports sway-free operation by actively correcting the hook block in both slewing and trolley directions. Hook block movements prior to system activation and external factors such as wind are also recognised.
Precise hook positioning is often difficult in situations where the crane operator can’t see the load hook directly, e.g. when working behind buildings, and involves extra effort in terms of communication. Thanks to Guided Hook, the load hook can now be easily moved by hand by a person on the ground.
Liebherr also has a solution for lifting loads without diagonal pull or swaying. Vertical Line Finder ensures that the load hook is always optimally positioned above the load’s centre of gravity, with the slewing gear and trolley being controlled automatically. This is a real advantage when it comes to the safety of people and sensitive components on site.
Another easy-to-use feature is the ability to access stored points without sway and travel along predefined routes. Positioning Pilot allows up to three hook positions to be repeatedly and accurately accessed and two individually mapped routes to be travelled. It’s the ideal assistant for monotonous lifting tasks and unloading processes involving several lifts.
K series fast-erecting cranes are ready to shine
Liebherr regularly updates its tower cranes to make them fit for the growing demands of modern construction sites. Three new fast-erecting crane models, the 43 K, 61 K and 91 K, are the latest additions to the K series, which is rounded off by the current generation of the 125 K.
The cranes can be used with the new assistance systems. This is made possible by the new crane control system Liebherr Control 5, which is already installed in a variety of construction machines within the Group, and the new Tower Crane Operating System 2 (TC OS 2). Proven advantages of previous cranes, e.g. variable hook heights and manoeuvrability in tight spaces, continue to feature in the new series.
