Liebherr Container Cranes offer apprenticeships in the following disciplines:
- Electrical (4 years)
- Mechanical Automation and Maintenance Fitter (MAMF) (4 years)
- Metal Fabricator (4 years)
- Industrial Coating (3 years)
Traditional Craft Apprenticeships
- Electrical Apprenticeship (4 years): On completion of this four-year apprenticeship, you will become a fully qualified electrician, earning a SOLAS QQI Level 6 Advanced Certificate Craft – Electrical. Also, part of this programme, Liebherr apprentices also complete a QQI Higher Level 6 Certificate in Engineering Technology - Electrical with Munster Technological University Kerry. Throughout the apprenticeship, you’ll receive comprehensive training in electrical engineering and installation, covering:
- High and low voltage systems
- Circuit theory
- Automation and PLCs
- IT technology
- Variable speed drive systems
- Instrumentation
You’ll gain practical skills in plant and machinery installation, startup, maintenance, and repairs, including machine servicing and assembly at various sites. - Mechanical Automation and Maintenance Fitter (MAMF) Apprenticeship (4 years): Upon completion of this four-year apprenticeship, you will be a fully qualified Mechanical Fitter, achieving a SOLAS QQI Level 6 Advanced Certificate Craft – MAMF. Also, part of this programme, Liebherr apprentices also complete a QQI Higher Level 6 Certificate in Engineering Technology - Mechanical with Munster Technological University Kerry. MAMF apprentices receive extensive training in:
- Plant and machinery installation, maintenance, and repairs
- Component fabrication
- Machine servicing and assembly
- Use of machines and systems integrating computer, electronic, and programmable controls

- Metal Fabricator Apprenticeship (4 years): On completion of this four-year apprenticeship, you will be a fully qualified Metal Fabricator, holding a SOLAS QQI Level 6 Advanced Certificate Craft – Metal Fabrication. Also, part of this programme, Liebherr apprentices also complete a QQI Higher Level 6 Certificate in Engineering Technology - Materials with Munster Technological University Kerry. Metal Fabricator apprentices receive specialized training in:
- Fabrication and joining techniques for large steel structures
- Key welding processes, including MMA, MIG, and MAG welding

New Apprenticeships
- Industrial Coating (3 years): On completion of this three-year apprenticeship, you will be a fully qualified Industrial Coating Applicator, accredited by Corrodere Academy in the UK, an internationally recognized certification. This apprenticeship combines both theoretical and practical training delivered through:
- Workplace-based learning
- Classroom workshops
- Online learning modules
Theoretical training includes on-site training from Liebherr experts, along with accredited modules from ICATS and Train the Painter — two of the world’s leading programs for Industrial Coating Applicators.
- Dual qualification: Earn not one, but two recognized qualifications – a SOLAS QQI Level 6 Advanced Certificate in your trade and a QQI Higher Certificate in Engineering Technology.
- Earn while you learn: Gain hands-on experience with a paid position while completing your qualification.
- International Experience: As part of Apprentice training, opportunities may arise in 3rd & 4th Year for apprentices to work on Liebherr projects at various international sites, gaining invaluable global insights and skills.
- Pathway to Becoming a Liebherr Engineer: Our apprenticeship is a strong stepping stone, with pathways available to progress your studies and become a Liebherr engineer.

Scholarship programme
The Liebherr Engineering Scholarship Programme provides a unique opportunity for Leaving Certificate and college students, to gain a 3rd level qualification in an engineering course of their choice. Upon successful completion, a graduate role in the company is assured subject to course result and interview.
Successful scholars must be enrolled on a Level 8 (honours degree) BEng in one of the following engineering disciplines: Mechanical | Structural | Electrical | Mechatronics | Automation. The programme is open to students of all third level institutions in Ireland. Successful applicants will have their college fees paid for the duration of their course, and will benefit from work placements, summer work, one-to-one tuition in Liebherr and the opportunity to progress into full time employment upon successful graduation.
What is the minimum requirement to be shortlisted for the scholarship programme?
You need be accepted onto an Engineering course which is eligible for this scholarship programme
What is the duration of the scholarship programme?
Our scholarship programme runs for the 4 years of the scholarship students chosen undergraduate programme of study. However current 3rd levels students are welcome to apply. In this instance the programme runs until the student has received their degree.

What is the minimum requirement to be shortlisted for the graduate programme?
There is a minimum requirement of a 2:1 Degree (Level 7 or 8 NFQ). If you hold a 2:2 in an Honours Degree and a 2:1 in a Postgraduate qualification (Level 9 NFQ) then your application will also be accepted.
How recently should I have graduated?
Our roles are aimed at new graduates who are looking for their first job. However, if you have more experience and would like a career at Liebherr Container Cranes, take a look at our open roles.
Do I need to have a specific degree to apply?
We are looking for graduates in Engineering, Business or Finance disciplines.
I need a work permit. Are you able to organise that for me?
It is a requirement that you are eligible to work in the Republic of Ireland. If you do not hold an appropriate work permit, regretfully we cannot take your application further.
