Fridge cooling zones: How to store food correctly in a fridge

Storing food correctly in the fridge means they will stay fresh for much longer. This means a much longer shelf life for your groceries on the one hand, and secondly the vitamins and nutrients the food contains will also be preserved for longer. The following always applies to refrigerators: They are cooler at the bottom than at the top. Read on to find out what belongs where.
Storage locationGroceries
Door rackThe temperatures in the fridge door are slightly higher than in the fridge compartment. This is the ideal place to store preserves, dressings, ketchup, cans and tubes. Cheese and butter can also be stored here just before they are eaten. Over a longer period of time, however, cheese and butter should be stored in the BioFresh compartment.
Fridge compartmentIdeally, the fridge compartment should be set to 41 degrees. Opened jars such as pickled vegetables or preprepared meals are stored here. As these are usually stored in larger containers (pots, bowls, cans), this is the best place to keep them.
BioFresh safeThe BioFresh compartment has a temperature of 32°F and variable humidity. This is the ideal storage area for virtually all groceries. Fruit and vegetables, as well as meat, sausages, fish and dairy products, can be stored here up to nine times longer than in the classic fridge compartment. In addition, BioFresh preserves the vital vitamins, nutrients and flavors.
Tip: Tropical fruits (e.g. bananas, pineapples) do not belong in the BioFresh safe as they grow in different climatic conditions and therefore also require warmer temperatures when they are stored.

Groceries in the freezer compartment

Most fridges have a freezer compartment, larger fridges are usually combination appliances comprising a fridge and freezer compartment with several individual freezer drawers. Freezers are used to store frozen food or foods that need to be frozen. If you have a fridge with a freezer compartment, you should note the refrigeration performance, which is usually indicated by stars.

For wine lovers

Visits from friends or a quiet evening at home are perfect occasions to open a nice bottle of wine. For crafted, aged wines to develop their fullest flavor, they need to be handled properly. Wines are best enjoyed if they are stored under ideal conditions and at precisely the right temperature.

Wine cooling

The flavors in the wine can best develop in bottles chilled at a constant temperature of between 50°F and 54°F.

Humidity

A humidity level over 50 percent keeps the cork intact, ensuring that the bottle remains sealed tight and the wine protected.

Wine fridges

A wine fridge creates consistent storage conditions and is therefore the ideal environment for wines to mature in the bottle.
