Sub-systems for off-highway applications – providing local zero emission solutions

Extreme power density

Sub-systems for off-highway applications: Electric drive systems by Liebherr are distinguished by their high power density. Integrated components are designed and selected to provide maximum output performance requiring the smallest installation space.

Reliable in harshest ambient conditions: Liebherr is a technology leader and partner with decades of experience in the development of application-specific drive systems in highly demanding fields. Solutions are designed for reliable operation in the extreme ambient conditions of construction sites and agricultural surroundings. They meet the highest requirements regarding efficiency, lifetime and operational safety.

Perfectly matched components: Based on extensive experience and application knowledge, our engineers build systems with an optimum overall efficiency integrating components with outstanding individual performances.

Hybrid and full electrification – local zero emissions: Electric drive systems save energy, compared to hydraulic systems, and provide efficient solutions for local zero emission operations in inner cities and other sensitive indoor and outdoor areas.

Compact and weight-optimized sub-systems

We know what you need to successfully electrify your vehicle: Sub-systems that can be integrated with minimum changes to the overall machine layout and particular working functions.

Same power at higher speed – smaller electrical machines: Electric drive systems by Liebherr are distinguished by their high power density. To achieve sub-systems with highest power density, we consequently aim for high rotational speeds to extract maximum performance from smallest building sizes. We continuously test and research to improve temperature effects, NVH (Noise, Vibration, Harshness) and the mechanical stability of electrical machines and connected components..

Perfectly matched components, short development cycles

To achieve short development cycles and out-of-the-box system supply, we created a modular system of perfectly matching standardized and tailor-made components.

Standardized main components: Standardization, too, saves time for our customers: We make sure our sub-systems comply to regionally required standards (CE, FFC, etc.) and solely integrate components with long-term spare parts availability.

Tuned and adapted to the application´s needs: We handle the complexity of system design and develop or adapt components and interfaces to be combined with standard components and to extract maximum individual and overall performance.

Validation of systems on inhouse test benches that reproduce real conditions

Efficiency: To achieve best overall efficiency, each component and especially the system´s interactions are being optimized on our inhouse test benches.

Full power and speed, load cycles, overload tests: Only sub-systems that fulfill our high requirements – based on our test results – are being delivered to our customers.

Control function testing: To check for dynamic effects and controller behavior, we include vehicle inertia in the test loads and emulate original vehicle communication buses.

Oil and water-cooling system and lubrication: We test the original vehicle system under load and in various inclined positions.

Local zero emission operations

Fossil- and emission-free operations in construction and farming

A significant share of total city emissions – particle matter, engine noise, SOx, NOx, CO2 – come from non-road mobile machinery. To actively drive forward the reduction of emissions, Liebherr engineers develop most efficient solutions for hybrid and fully electric drives. Based on extensive research and testing, we address our customer´s challenges in the electrification of local operations.
