On board the C919

COMAC selected Liebherr-Aerospace as supplier of the landing gear system and the integrated air management systems for its prestigious regional jet.

The COMAC C919 is a 156 to 168 seat, short to medium range commercial aircraft built by the Commercial Aircraft Corporation of China (COMAC) and successfully completed its first flight on May 5th, 2017.

State-of-the-art air management system

The integrated air management system of the C919 is developed, supplied and serviced by Liebherr-Aerospace Toulouse SAS, Toulouse (France). The system includes the bleed air system, the air conditioning system, the air distribution system, the cabin pressure control system, the wing anti-ice system and the avionics ventilation system.

Liebherr-Aerospace supplies an air management system with state-of-the-art technology. The focus is to develop a very high level of integration of all functions. There are only two centralized controllers which manage all air-related functionalities, for example.

Future-oriented landing gear system

The landing gear system is developed, supplied and serviced by Liebherr-Aerospace Lindenberg GmbH, Lindenberg (Germany). It includes the main landing gear and nose landing gear, extension and retraction system, nose wheel steering system as well as the position and warning system.

For the development and production of the landing gears, Liebherr-Aerospace has entered into a joint venture with Chinese AVIC member Landing-gear Advanced Manufacturing Co., Ltd. (LAMC) in Changsha, Province of Hunan.

Co-operation with Nanjing Engineering Institute of Aircraft Systems

Liebherr-Aerospace has set up a co-operation with Nanjing Engineering Institute of Aircraft Systems (NEIAS) for the development and manufacturing of some of the air management system’s components. Liebherr-Aerospace and NEIAS agreed on a work share based on each partner’s best capabilities. The goal of this cooperation is to deepen the relationship with NEIAS. The Institute has been selected by Liebherr as a key partner, in order to set up a work share model that is suitable for future programs.

The joint venture Liebherr LAMC Aviation (Changsha) Co., Ltd. was established in 2012 and is responsible for the assembly and delivery of the landing gear systems of COMAC’s ARJ21 and C919 aircraft. It will work for other programs in the years to come.
