Slurry wall cutter LSC 8-20 and duty cycle crawler crane HS 8130.1

At this year’s Bauma, Liebherr is presenting the new package for demanding slurry wall work consisting of a duty cycle crawler crane and cutter. With new motorisation and 35-tonne free-fall winches, the HS 8130.1 is a real workhorse and can be used universally as a carrier machine. In combination with the higher torque of the LSC 8-20 cutter, the powerful duo is ideally suited for deep slurry walls with thicknesses of up to 2 metres.

A powerful duo for slurry wall construction: duty cycle crawler crane HS 8130.1 and cutter LSC 8-20.

With the HS 8130.1, Liebherr is launching the latest generation of the 130-tonne duty cycle crawler crane. The machines in the HS series have successfully established themselves as all-rounders, particularly due to their wide range of applications. In addition to grab and cutting work in deep foundation, the model can be used for soil compaction (e.g. with drop weight or vibro-flot), material handling, lifting work or dredging applications up to 200 metres deep. The free-fall winches with a line pull of 350 kN each ensure the powerful performance of the HS 8130.1. A Liebherr engine with a power rating of 565 kW drives the duty cycle crawler crane.

The platforms and handrails on the uppercarriage have been optimised so that they can be folded away easily and, above all, quickly for transport. In addition, the refuelling position is now more easily accessible and a system for monitoring gear oils continuously provides the operator with information about possible service work. The HS 8130.1 is equipped with numerous digital solutions and assistance systems that primarily increase safety and productivity on the construction site. Examples include the ground pressure visualization, the dredging assistant, the cycle counter and the eco-silent mode to reduce noise emissions. The interlock control system enables energy recovery in dragline operation, which saves fuel and reduces wear on the free-fall brake. Optimum driver comfort is ensured by the new cabin, which has increased UV and thermal protection, heating and air conditioning, an orthopaedic driver’s seat, a cool box and individually adjustable monitors.

Slurry wall cutter LSC 8-20

The HS 8130.1 can be equipped with either a grab or a cutter for slurry wall work. The new cutters LSC 8-20 C and LSC 8-20 L now offer a higher nominal torque of 147 kNm for each cutting wheel and enable slurry wall thicknesses of 800-2000 mm. The term “C” (compact) stands for the compact version, while the base body of the “L” (large) version is 4 m longer. The resulting total height of the slurry wall cutter (12 m) and the high weight with low centre of gravity provide for improved vertical positioning and excellent control. This is especially advantageous for slurry walls with large dimensions. Bites with lengths of 2800-3200 mm and maximum depths of 150 m can be excavated with it. The slurry wall cutter is fitted with a hydraulic turning device, which enables the continuous alignment of the cutter in the trench. This means all possible working positions are covered. The cutting direction can be corrected using 12 independently controllable steering flaps. The actual position of the flaps is displayed in real time on the monitor in the operator’s cabin.

Access for maintenance and repair has been optimised in the new design. As an option, the hose reels can also be swivelled on their axis to simplify the assembly process and improve winding up. Visually, the LSC 8-20 differs from its predecessor with a new colour concept. Liebherr offers the slurry wall cutter, the HS 8130.1 as carrier machine and the separation plant as a complete package.
