Environmental Commitment

Considering the potential impact of its industrial activity and products, Liebherr-Aerospace Toulouse SAS is committed to environmental protection and is certified ISO 14001 "Site and Products" since 2007.

For more than 10 years, the company has been carrying out its Greenhouse Gas Emissions Balance, called “Bilan des Emissions de Gaz à Effet de Serre” (BEGES) that measures the energy consumptions and greenhouse gas emissions for its activity. With this assessment, the organization can identify, reduce and monitor direct and indirect emissions.

2014 was defined as the reference year to compare with newer assessment done in 2019 for 2018 activities and more recently in 2023 for 2022 activities.

With these reports, Liebherr-Aerospace Toulouse SAS has updated its energy use strategy, with reduction consumption actions such as heat and calorie recovery on test benches, the use of frigories from natural outside air to supplement air conditioning, and the replacement of oil and gas boilers at Toulouse and Campsas sites.

The latest 2023 report on our emissions generated in 2022 shows a balance of 1 400 tons of CO2 equivalent. This represents a reduction of 1 200 tons of CO2 equivalent even with a 4.7% increase in sales compared to 2014: a significant reduction in the greenhouse gas emissions thanks to the actions taken for several years.

Over the last 2018-2022 period, the company has notably invested in a new, more efficient, compressed air production station, which is the most electricity-consuming activity of the site. It has also acquired several electric vehicles to replace the thermal ones used for handling, logistics and mission trips. In 2021, Liebherr-Aerospace Toulouse SAS took its first step towards renewable electricity production with the installation of a photovoltaic solar roof.

In 2023, many new actions address the energy consumption of products development and production tests: regulation improvement, hot air recovery and consumption optimization of the test benches. The company also continues to invest in renewable electricity, with the installation of photovoltaic shading systems. The implementation of an energy management system enables to monitor consumptions in real time, to have alerts and to display monthly EPIs (Energy Performance Indicators) to measure optimizations and anticipate possible drifts.

The involvement of the employees, the dynamism of the technicians, engineers, and in-house experts, men and women, and the good results of the collective approach demonstrate the company’s ability to adapt, with a Sustainable Development perspective.

Aware of the challenges and expectations of customers in relation to Scope 3 indirect emissions, Liebherr-Aerospace Toulouse has evaluated the impact of this enlarged perimeter since 2021. To date, these results have been used internally by the company.
