Perth branch wins 2nd place at BHP HSEC Awards

Congratulations to the team at Perth’s Mining branch who received 2nd place at the BHP Iron Ore Contractor HSEC Awards, for improving the safety and efficiency of the R 9400 engine module replacement. This new method for changing out components has reduced the risk, costs, and labour involved, halving machine down-time from 144 hours to 72 hours, and drastically reducing labour requirements from over 900 hours down to approximately 400 hours.

The module change-out process has demonstrated many positive outcomes. The number of crane lifts has significantly reduced from 50 to less than 10, with a change to simpler and more controlled lifts, minimising the risk involved in crane operations.

The amount of time service personnel are exposed to risks involved with working at heights has been drastically reduced, along with improvement in the ease of tasks that need to be performed at these greater risk heights.

The module exchange method also reduces the environmental risk exposure involved with hydraulic systems and components, and allows for component maintenance that would otherwise be difficult or impossible to complete.

Well done to Anthony Piggott, Graham Jones, Jonathon Craig, Anthony Walsh and their team for their hard work implementing this method, and for showcasing excellence in safety and customer service to our valued customers.
