Liebherr MK 140 mobile construction crane receives IFOY AWARD

  • The MK 140 mobile construction crane has won the IFOY Award – International Intralogistics and Forklift Truck of the Year
  • It took a whole week for the MK 140 to undergo various tests prior to evaluation by a 30-member jury
  • The MK 140 will be exhibited at the CeMAT in Hanover from 23 April onwards

Liebherr has won the International Intralogistics and Forklift Truck of the Year (IFOY) Award with its MK 140 mobile construction crane. The five-axle crane underwent various tests for a week prior to submission before a jury of around 30 experts. The mobile construction crane can be seen at the CeMAT, the world’s leading trade fair for intralogistics, in Hanover from 23 to 27 April, 2018.

The MK 140 stood out in its category "Crane and Lifting Appliance" to win the IFOY Award. Above all, innovation, design, ergonomics, marketability as well as economic viability and sustainability were evaluated. “The tests have proven how innovative and practical our MK 140 is in comparison to its direct competitor machines on the market”, states Wolfgang Schlaucher, Product Manager at Liebherr.

Innovation: Symbiosis of two crane systems

With its new VarioJib, the MK 140 is the first crane to combine trolley mode and luffing mode crane systems in a single crane model. This crane symbiosis is unique and means that mobile construction crane operators can now use radii and hook heights which previously were the preserve of much larger machines and required an enormous amount of set-up work.

"The innovation prize confirms we’re right in our strategy of making innovation a driving force in our daily work. We’re working systematically on being one step ahead. Our aim is technological progress in the interest of our customers. We invest intensely in research and development every year, this enabling us to set new trends as a real trailblazer”, states Wolfgang Schlaucher.

The MK 140 at the CeMAT in Hanover

After the prize was awarded on 23 April, 2018, the MK 140 mobile construction crane will be presented on the grounds outside the world’s leading trade fair for intralogistics CeMAT in Hanover.

The maximum load capacity of the MK 140 is 8000 kilogrammes, the maximum radius is 65.0 metres. In luffing mode the mobile construction crane attains hook heights up to 94 metres – unique in its class. At the same time, the five-axle crane has an overall length of around 16 metres to make it very compact – which is particularly beneficial for jobs in city centres.

IFOY – the endurance test

The machines and solutions underwent individually coordinated driving and function tests, including the IFOY Test Report comprising 80 criteria as well as the scientific IFOY Innovation Check. It was crucial here not to compare the nominated machines with one another but with their competitors in the market.
