Customer demonstration featuring the Liebherr MK 140 mobile construction crane impresses visitors in Saudi Arabia

At the end of October, around 30 visitors came together at the premises of Saudi Liebherr Company in Dammam to experience an exclusive demonstration of the MK 140 mobile construction crane. The event was organised by Saudi Liebherr Company in collaboration with ACT Group Co., a leading provider of crane services in Saudi Arabia. ACT invited customers from the petrochemical industry to the event to give them a first-hand look at the benefits of this innovative crane concept.

In his welcome message to participants, Daniel Türkis, division manager for mobile cranes at Liebherr in Saudi Arabia, emphasised how relevant the MK 140 is for the country, “The mobile construction crane marks a new era in terms of flexibility and efficiency on construction sites. In Europe, MK cranes have already established themselves in the mobile crane sector and have become indispensable on construction sites. This outcome, together with the reliability of these cranes, is now also proving to be of growing interest on the Saudi market.” Two MK specialists flew in from Germany especially for the crane event. They assisted with the demonstration and provided valuable insights into the crane concept, the technology involved and the machines' economic potential.

MK 140: a mobile construction crane in a class of its own

The MK 140 from Liebherr is one of the most powerful and flexible mobile construction cranes on the market. With a maximum hook height of up to 94.4 metres and a radius of 65 metres, it sets new standards where reach and lifting capacity are concerned. This technology was demonstrated to attending guests in impressive style as the crane's jib unfolded to its full length over the heads of those watching. The crane reached its maximum hook height within just a few minutes, which left a great impression on the industry representatives present, “It’s remarkable how quickly and easily the crane is ready for use. That’s a huge advantage in our industry where time is often money,” commented one of the guests. Representatives from ACT Group Co. were also confident that the MK cranes will be a real game changer, especially when it comes to applications that require high handling capacity with maximum precision.

The fact that the crane can be assembled and operated by just one person with minimal effort, a feature common to Liebherr’s mobile construction cranes, was particularly well received. The entire assembly process was started at the touch of a button and guests were able to see for themselves how user-friendly and efficient the crane is, creating an ideal solution for a wide range of construction projects where time and resources are of the essence.

Innovative safety and environmental features

Liebherr prioritises high safety standards when developing its cranes. Those attending the demonstration were able to see the MK 140’s numerous safety functions for themselves. Among these special features are automatic monitoring and stability systems, which make sure that the crane remains stable however challenging conditions are.

Another key aspect of the MK 140 is its ability to be powered entirely by electricity. This environmentally friendly technology received a positive response from the audience. At a time when sustainability is becoming ever more of a priority worldwide, Saudi Arabia is also showing a growing interest in environmentally friendly and low-emission solutions. The MK 140 is capable of all-electric operation, which not only minimises noise pollution but also significantly reduces CO2 emissions. This is a major advantage for city construction projects and those in environmentally sensitive areas. For the petrochemical industry and other sectors, the innovative solutions offered by Liebherr mobile construction cranes are an answer to specific construction site challenges.
