Liebherr to Supply HVAC Systems for Electrostar Class 377/8 Trains

Liebherr-Transportation Systems has won a contract from Bombardier to supply heating, ventilation and air conditioning systems for type Electrostar Class 377/8 electrical multi-unit trains.

The order covers heating, ventilation and air conditioning (HVAC) systems, including the related controls, for passenger compartments and driver’s cabins of 27 four-car Bombardier Electrostar* trains. These Class 377/8 vehicles will be operated by UK rail company Southern, which already has a fleet of Electrostar trains in service.

The equipment will be delivered to Bombardier’s manufacturing site in Derby (UK)

through the remaining months of 2015 and into 2016. Once the trains have entered service, Liebherr will also provide for the vehicles trains from its maintenance center in Gatwick, near London (UK).

Previously, Liebherr-Transportation Systems supplied equipment for similar trains which were manufactured by Bombardier, such as the Southern Class 377/6 and 377/7 for the fleets of North London, East London and Stansted Express rail companies. A derivative train of these types fitted with Liebherr’s HVAC systems was also delivered to Johannesburg (South Africa) for the Gautrain mass transit rail system. By winning this new contract with Bombardier, Liebherr-Transportation Systems has once more proven to be a reliable partner for the rail industry with extensive experience in supplying and maintaining heating, ventilation and air conditioning systems.
