MTDC SupervisorLME Proving Grounds
The Mining Technology Development Center Supervisor is responsible for the overall direction and coordination of operations at the LME MTDC site. They are responsible for scheduling, planning and task management of all activities involved in the support of development, testing, training and customer relations conducted on the MTDC site. This includes daily task prioritization and delegation, adherence to schedules, planning of equipment operation and maintenance, and management of team members who participate on site.
Responsibilities
Essential Job Duties:
- Provides technical direction and prioritization of all activities undertaken on site.
- Maintains MTDC test equipment.
- Responsible for truck test scheduling and planning at the MTDC.
- Schedules and plans MTDC site areas of operation including haul trucks and support equipment.
- Inspection and maintenance of tooling, equipment, rigging, and site.
- Provides MTDC investment recommendations for equipment, tools and site infrastructure.
- Truck updates, truck prototyping, and TI implementation.
- Oversees Engineering Technicians on procedures, proper use of data acquisition hardware and sensors, and general truck operation and safety.
- Follows and implements the test plan by working with customers, suppliers, or other department personnel to gain access to test trucks.
- Specifies, installs, and verifies operation of sensors and data acquisition equipment required for engineering tests based on the requirements in the test plan.
- Specifies, builds, troubleshoots, or repairs electrical control wires and hydraulic systems used for new or existing test equipment.
- Provides input to Engineers or Managers on the time or equipment required to perform a specific task.
- Utilizes the Liebherr ERP system to check parts availability or search for Bills of Materials (BOMs) and engineering drawings.
- Utilizes truck software system to perform engineering tests as required.
- Creates detailed task lists and maintains project backlog and planning.
- Estimates time and cost requirements for all projects.
- Works as a team member with other Technicians, Engineers, designers and product support personnel on ad hoc projects.
- Participates in the Product Development Plan.
- Coordinates and directs multiple proving grounds activities in support of various projects with a diverse list of stakeholders
Supervisory Duties:
- Directly supervises up to six testing specific employees in the Test group to support validation testing activities.
- Trains, mentors, develops team on operating procedures, resolving system malfunctions, and provides technical information.
- Responsible for the overall direction, coordination and evaluation of MTDC team.
- Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization’s policies and applicable laws.
- Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring and training employees; planning, assigning and directing work, appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems.
Competencies
- Education and Experience: Associate’s degree (A.A.S.) or equivalent from a two year college or technical school for engineering technology plus 10 years’ experience as an Engineering Technician; or 12 years related experience
- and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Ability to direct activity of Engineering Technicians, Mechanics, Operators, and other support roles to achieve the deliverables of the MTDC.
- Demonstrated proficiency of Senior Engineering Technician.
- Knowledge of financial data and costing procedures.
- Knowledge of ERP system as it relates to truck BOM structure and inventory control.
- Capable of checking own work and work of others.
- Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute area, volume and weights. Ability to convert from US to metric engineering units.
- Skilled in the use of Jira, Microsoft Word, Excel, and Project or similar software packages to summarize preliminary test results and schedule tasks.
- Knowledge of heavy equipment systems, maintenance, and repair.
- Skilled in the use of data acquisition equipment and sensors to implement a test plan.
- Ability to work according to established engineering, company, or customer safety procedures.
- Ability to read schematics and install and troubleshoot basic hydraulic and electrical circuits.
- Skilled in the operation and use of power and hand tools.
- Skilled in the operation of forklifts, overhead cranes, mining & construction equipment.
- Ability to handle and dispose of hazardous wastes such as oil, antifreeze, parts cleaner solvent, or similar material.
- Knowledge of basic computer operation such as serial or network connections.
- Travel domestically and internationally up to 60% of the time.
- Ability to obtain and maintain a valid driver license and passport.
- Ability to maintain Mine Safety & Health Administration (MSHA) certification.
- Ability to maintain forklift, overhead crane, Mining truck, Excavator, Dozer, Motor Grader and any other required operator certifications.
