The Technical Specialist or Principal engineer is responsible for providing guidance to teams working on products or developing various forms of technologies. These roles represent the highest level of technical competency within a specific technical domain within LME. The Technical Specialist or Principal Engineer provides in-depth knowledge and experience in a particular domain to support project oriented tasks as well as technical mentorship/stewardship within the company. They have the ability to oversee a project’s conception and design and provide technical execution at the highest level. Additionally they may apply their technical expertise in project management related activities to support the company’s goals.
Responsibilities
Level 5 - Technical Specialist
- Viewed by peers as resident expert on a particular technical topic
- Routinely consulted by colleagues for advice on a particular technical topic
- Reviews and critiques the works of other experienced engineers
- Demonstrates sound judgement by way of their decision making
- Assist in project budget and schedule preparation activities
- Sets standards for the assurance of technical quality
- Participate in project analysis, design, implementations and commissioning phases.
- Prepare user requirements, technical specifications, design specifications and commissioning plans.
- Provide support in system acceptance testing and validation activities.
- Review and recommend improvements to existing system designs.
Level 6 - Principal Engineer
- Provide engineering guidance to other departments, help to train new engineers and keep abreast of industry trends and issues.
- Participation in industry working groups or professional societies for the advancement of their domain.
- Prepares publications and presentations both internally and externally related to the advancement of
- Develop new systems and maintain and modify existing systems when required.
- Analyze project requirements and accordingly provide technical and functional recommendations.
- Respond to customer queries and concerns in a timely fashion.
- Schedule engineering meetings to discuss about new ideas, issues and project status.
- Work with engineering team to oversee warranty reviews and product return reviews.
- Evaluate existing engineering processes and recommend improvements.
Competencies
Level 5 Technical Specialist: Master’s Degree (M.S.) in a related field and 4 years of experience or a Bachelor's degree (B.S.) in an Engineering discipline from a 4 year college or university with 10 years related experience; and 5 years as a Senior Engineer.
- Demonstrated ability to synthesize complex problems/situations/processes and provide optimized solutions.
- Demonstrated evidence of excellent problem solving skills as well as keen analytical abilities.
- Demonstrated leadership within Liebherr working groups for the advancement of their domain.
- Demonstrates proficiency in project management skills.
Level 6 - Principal Engineer: Master’s Degree (M.S.) in a related field and 8 years of experience or a Bachelor's degree (B.S.) in an Engineering discipline from a 4 year college or university with 15 years related experience; and 5 years as a Technical Specialist.
- Demonstrated ability and examples of transitioning knowledge to other engineers
- Demonstrated ability and examples of transitioning knowledge to others outside of Liebherr (e.g. students – science fair, teaching, hobby groups, industry groups)
- Ability to perform at a strategic level. Providing input to management for the future of their domain.
