10% of materials applied on the construction site are wasted due to several factors, including miscalculation or transportation mistakes as two of the biggest reasons. One of these materials is fresh concrete.
Recycling residual concrete from production plant and truck mixers has many great advantages. One of the most important is avoiding any burden on the environment. Dumping residual concrete is not only unsightly but may also harm the environment and ground water. In addition, there are hefty fines that are increasing and becoming more of a burden to contractors.
One way to keep the concrete fresh is by adding set retarding admixture, it will help to reduce the hydration speed. This process keeps the concrete fresh longer, allowing this concrete to be added again in a new mix design for later use. Specialized ready-mix concrete companies often use this process.
Recycling fresh concrete in Liebherr recycling plants is not only an option but rather a complement to concrete recycling through admixtures and other chemicals. Not to mention a clear advantage over recycling hardened concrete.
Liebherr, as a benchmark company, has a deep knowledge about how to recycle fresh concrete, separating all the components of the concrete recipe and using them again.
The residual water that comes from the concrete trucks washout process can easily be returned to the production process. For instance, the concrete recycling plant is connected to the portal used to wash out truck mixers making it possible for the recovered material to be reapplied in new concrete mixes. In addition, Liebherr concrete plants are designed with the flexibility to have the water weigher suitable for either fresh or residual water.
In Liebherr recycling equipment, the remaining water wash out containing cement and fine particles is collected in a buffer and flows, afterwards, into a storage tank where the particles are maintained in suspension by agitators. Eventually, a proportion of this “grey” water can be returned and batched into the concrete mix without any reduction in the quality of the finished product. In parallel, sand and gravel are conveyed upwards on the machine and separated from the water, and they will be re-used in the concrete production as coarse aggregates, keeping their physical properties intact.
With few exceptions – like colored concrete and fiber mixes, virtually all the other types of fresh concrete can be recycled in Liebherr recycling plants.
From small to large Concrete businesses, Liebherr is ready to supply your next stationary or mobile recycling plant. If you need to renovate or improve your existing recycling plant our Liebherr representatives are here to support your needs.
