New assist system for the future construction site: Liebherr receives EuroTest Award for active person recognition

In keeping with the motto "Together. Now & Tomorrow.", Liebherr presents numerous innovations to the visitors of Bauma. Liebherr was awarded the EuroTest Award of BG Bau for one of these innovations.

Anyone who visits the Liebherr stand at Bauma discovers all sizes of wheel loaders. The largest wheel loader is the over 32 tonne L 586, which belongs to the XPower® generation. Its new intelligent assist systems celebrate their première at Bauma. These assist systems include active person recognition at the rear, which protects against accidents with personal injury. This optimisation in terms of safety and comfort in day-to-day work with a wheel loader was awarded the 2019 EuroTest Award at Bauma. This means that Liebherr has joined an exclusive group of only five award winners, who have been recognised by the BG Bau for their outstanding achievements in the areas of technical occupational safety and product safety since 1996.

With the automatic warning function on the display and in the form of acoustic signals, the active person recognition indicates dangers in the rear area of the wheel loader. The special feature is that the system can automatically make a distinction between people and objects using sensors. The system alerts the machine driver as soon as a person is in the rear area of the machine. In the case of people, the wheel loader assist system sends a warning at a greater distance than in the case of static objects such as walls or pillars. In this way if there is an imminent threat of personal injury not only the risk of serious accidents is lowered, but the burden for the machine operator is also reduced by avoiding unnecessary warning signals.
