Liebherr-Aerospace in Canada: Certified Quality and Environmental Management Systems

Following a stringent and detailed audit of processes and procedures at Liebherr-Canada’s Aerospace and Transportation Systems Division, the certification of the quality management system to AS9100D and ISO 9001:2015 standards was successfully achieved and the certificate was granted at the beginning of this year.

Furthermore, the ISO14001:2015 certified environmental management system was subjected to a surveillance audit in early February 2019 and no significant issues were noted.

Liebherr-Canada’s Aerospace and Transportation Systems Division has maintained an ISO9001 certified quality management system since 2001. In 2011, the quality management system was modified and certified to AS9120 standard (intended for use by organizations that procure parts, materials, and assemblies and resell these products to a customer in the aviation, space, and defense industries). The management system was continuously improved and certified to the AS9120B and ISO9001:2015 standards in 2018.

The activities supported by the Aerospace and Transportation Systems Division expanded to include final assembly of landing gear components used on the A220 commercial airliner in 2017. This work is done on behalf of the OEM Liebherr-Aerospace Lindenberg GmbH (Germany). In order to provide consistent results and satisfy future demands, the quality management system was modified to also include the production and assembly activities. Subsequently, steps were undertaken to certify the quality management system at the facility in Canada to the ISO9001:2015 and AS9100D standards - intended for use by organizations that design, develop, or provide aviation, space, and defense products and services. This standard has slightly more demanding requirements when it comes to operations-related activities.

The audits confirm that the management systems in place at the Liebherr-Canada Ltd., Aerospace and Transportation Systems Division effectively contribute to improved quality and environmental performance of the team’s activities.
