Liebherr Sunderland Works Ltd started production in 1989 and is celebrating its 25th jubilee this year. Some 400 guests gathered on 11 July to express their congratulations. The agenda for the morning was a tour of the company's premises and the official speeches. The celebrations continued in the evening at the Stadium of Light, home of the English Premier League football club Sunderland AFC.
Patricia Rüf, representing the Liebherr family, thanked the workforce for their hard work. General Manager Ralph Sälzer stressed the special relationship between the Liebherr Group and the city of Sunderland. And Mayor Stuart Porthouse praised the company as an important employer in the region, which has a long tradition in shipbuilding and maritime construction stretching back several centuries.
Today, Liebherr Sunderland Works Ltd employs around 190 people, including 30 apprentices. The production site has been extended several times since 1989. Today it covers almost 16,000 m². More than 2000 offshore and ship cranes have been built there to date, and these have been exported to many different parts of the world.
