Liebherr USA, Co.’s Construction Equipment division is the 2020 recipient of the Associated Equipment Distributors Foundation Partner Award. First presented in 2017, the award recognizes the distinguished service of a manufacturer or service provider that has offered significant contributions to the professional education goals of the AED Foundation.
Foundation leaders said Liebherr’s strong support for the organization’s fundraising gala, which included donating a European vacation package to the live auction, allows the group to grow and support the industry through efforts such as addressing the industry’s skills gap and technician shortage. Liebherr has been a member of AED since 1972.
“Liebherr’s always has been a strong partner of The AED Foundation and we thank them for their generous support,” said Jason Blake, Executive Vice President and COO of The AED Foundation.
Established in 1919, Associated Equipment Distributors is an international trade association based in Schaumburg, Illinois. It represents over 700 equipment distributors, manufacturers and industry service firms across North America. AED members sell, service and rent equipment to markets that include heavy and light construction, mining, agriculture, forestry, aggregates and engines.
Established in 1991 and directed by AED members, the AED Foundation addresses professional education and industry workforce development. The foundation accredits post-secondary construction equipment technology programs and recognizes high school diesel technology programs; offers long-term career planning and continuing education; and funds research to support its advocacy on the importance of workforce development that is shared with legislators, educators, industry stakeholders and the media.
“We are very honored to receive this prestigious award,” said Peter Mayr, Liebherr USA, Co. managing director. “Our support is an investment into the industry which will ultimately benefit manufacturers and dealers.”
Based in Newport News, Virginia, Liebherr began manufacturing equipment in the United States in 1970. In 2020, the company is celebrating 50 years as a leading provider of construction equipment and other technically advanced and user-oriented products and services in North America. Liebherr’s relationship with customers and business partners and industry leaders, such as the AED Foundation, position the company to be united by success.
Also at the heart of Liebherr’s success are the company’s 1,200 US-based employees, who are part of a family of 46,000 employees worldwide. In addition to construction and earthmoving equipment, Liebherr’s range of products includes tower cranes, mobile and crawler cranes, mining equipment, gear technology and automation systems, aerospace and maritime cranes.
Liebherr is continuing its long-term investment in the US by opening an expanded campus in Newport News this year. The new facilities will add approximately 251,000 sq. ft. of administrative, warehouse and workshop space.
