Joerg Stroebele, General Manager of Liebherr-Logistics GmbH answers five questions about the new logistics center in Tupelo, Mississippi, on the occasion of the center’s groundbreaking ceremony on 5 December 2024. Liebherr-Logistics GmbH is the in-house logistics services provider of the Liebherr Group and serves more than 70 Liebherr sales and service companies around the world, covering more than 20 product lines.

1. Can you tell us a bit about the new logistics center being built here in Tupelo, Mississippi and when it is due to be finished?

The new continental warehouse in Tupelo, Mississippi, will eventually span an area of approx. 12 acre. It is located on a 74-acre plot on the Hive Business Park. That leaves a further 36 acre for expanding or adding other buildings, if needed. This additional site within the Liebherr-Logistics GmbH network will deliver logistics and other services for all customers in North and South America. The first phase of the investment totals $176 million and, once complete, it should create 180 new jobs for local people.

The new logistics center is scheduled for completion in Q4/2026, with the first packages due to be dispatched from there to customers in early 2027. Liebherr and its partners are working hard to complete the project on schedule and to get the plant ready for a seamless provision of logistics and other services.

2. Which tasks will Liebherr be undertaking at the new logistics center?

Liebherr will be performing lots of tasks at the logistics center to ensure the smooth flow of logistics and other services. These include warehousing, distribution, pre-assembly, packaging, repackaging, and customs and export services.

3. What does Liebherr set out to achieve through its investment in Tupelo, Mississippi?

The aim of Liebherr’s investment in Tupelo, Mississippi, is to improve the logistics capacities and strengthen the Group’s presence in the American market. Liebherr also wants to be able to serve its customers faster and more efficiently. So, by incorporating cutting-edge technologies and sustainable design elements, Liebherr will be in the perfect position to meet customers’ changing requirements.

4. Which products will Liebherr’s new logistics center be distributing?

The continental warehouse will not change anything in terms of the sales channel to the customers. The logistics center will take over the logistics processing and will optimize delivery of spare parts and products from the earthmoving, tower cranes, concrete technology, mobile and crawler cranes, maritime cranes, and component segments. Additional product segments will provisionally be added soon after the logistics center is up and running.

5. Is Liebherr planning to make further investments on this plot of land?

The newly acquired site in Tupelo, Mississippi, gives the Liebherr Group the opportunity to develop and establish a cutting-edge campus of additional facilities for services and innovative products. The planned investment sum for the campus development is up to $230 million. In the long term, Liebherr is planning to create more than 300 new jobs on the campus in Tupelo, Mississippi. These expansions and services will enable Liebherr to make long-term partnerships.
