Crowd Booster

Higher tensile forces through synchronization of several winches - the principle is simple: the main winch (Kelly winch) is switched to support the crowd winch. The rope from the Kelly winch is attached to the multi-sledge. This produces almost double the amount of pull force.

During drilling and above all when extracting, the control system monitors that the crowd winch and the Kelly winch run at matched speeds and with the correct distribution of pull forces. The ropes on the winches are always taut so avoiding slack rope.

It also takes the burden of the operator. The automatic control function for both winches is activated by pressing a button on the joystick.

Parallel operation for single pass method

For continuous flight auger, double rotary and full displacement drilling, the Kelly rope is reeved through an extraction device at the rotary drive in addition to the crowd rope. The Kelly winch runs together with the multi-sledge.

Your benefits:

  • The rope crowd system receives more pull force.
  • More even distribution of the load on the multi-sledge, and so higher protection for its guides.
  • Less wear and tear on the ropes.

Extracting drill casings when Kelly drilling

Also when Kelly drilling, the line pull of the Kelly winch can be used if required. For this purpose a special pulling plate is mounted to the Kelly bar. This transfers the tensile force of the Kelly rope to the rope crowd system via the casing.

  • It serves to extract especially heavy drill casings and/or drilling equipment.
  • It provides the necessary pull force for particularly cohesive soils.
  • Therefore, a casing oscillator is often not required.
