Longer wingspans can improve aerodynamics, yet longer wings have been constrained by space at airport gates. Now the new Boeing 777X, the worldʼs largest and most efficient twin-jet engine jet, according to the US airplane manufacturer, is the first in history commercial airplane with a folding wingtip.
Liebherr-Aerospace presents at Paris Air Show (June 19-25, 2023) at its booth no. A276 in hall 2, a moving mock-up (scale 1:1.5) that shows how the wingtip of the long, advanced composite wing of the Boeing 777X is extended and folded upward. Liebherr displays also components of the mechanism, such as the angle gearbox, the power drive unit and numerous actuators.
The company thus highlights the fact that it is able to offer reliable folding mechanisms for efficient aircraft platforms.
