Easily and individually adjustable: the new Litronic crane controller for Liebherr tower cranes

  • Very easy to use for the crane driver
  • High safety level on site
  • Better performance and economy for crane operation

Liebherr has upgraded its Litronic crane controller. The modern system can be adjusted individually to the needs of various uses. The system also satisfies the high requirements of the impending safety standard. Feedback from practical users was also used in the development work. This has resulted in a convenient system which meets the high safety requirements of working on a site and also makes it easy for the crane driver to use.

The Litronic crane controller from Liebherr monitors, controls and coordinates all the main functions of Liebherr top-slewing cranes. The Litronic crane control system in general consists of several electronic function blocks and interfaces. These include as standard the LMB load moment limiting system, the ABB working range limiting system and the MDA machine data evaluation system, an interface for the AKS anti-collision system and the LiDAT fleet management system.

Very easy to use for the crane driver

The new Litronic crane controller from Liebherr is easy to use for the crane driver. The electronic monitor system (EMS) enables him to adjust the settings to his personal working methods and adjust the speeds of all drive units as required. Depending on how he works and his own personal preferences he can also select various modes for the slewing, hoisting and trolley travel gear.

The upgraded Litronic crane controller enables the crane driver to select reference points on the site and enter them using the EMS. This not only increases the working range for the driver but also improves the handling capacity on site. This enables the driver to move the crane precisely to the defined positions without requiring time-consuming marshalling by a colleague - even in poor visibility.

High safety level on site

When the crane is scaled, the new Litronic crane controller from Liebherr delivers greater convenience and thus enhances site safety. For example, the load measuring axle can be scaled using just one test load. This then allows the measured and manually entered value to be compared using a plausibility test. If the value is not within the tolerance range specified by the manufacturer a warning will appear on the display. This therefore rules out the risk of overloading the crane. The scaling process must be completed perfectly before the crane can be operated correctly.

Overloading the tower crane during the climbing process is another potential risk. To prevent overloading the crane during the climbing process, the new Litronic controller monitors the entire process. Depending on the crane and its equipment level, the climbing load curve and other important crane data can be entered to ensure safe climbing.

Better performance and economy for crane operation

In conjunction with the new SD.shift hoist gears, the upgraded Litronic crane controller from Liebherr enables higher hoisting and lowering speeds to be used. In addition to gentle, safe crane operation, this also ensures efficient and therefore very economical operation.

The new version of the Litronic crane controller can also reduce down times and storage costs. Servicing and maintenance costs can be reduced by installing identical sensors for the hoist, slewing and trolley travel gears. In the event of a fault the sensors can even be interchanged. As a result of their high resolution they can also be used for high hook heights and short jib lengths.

The crane commissioning procedure on site has also been improved. The power consumption of the tower crane can now be tailored to the site situation. The connection rating of the drive units can be reduced easily and quickly adjusted to suit local conditions.

The crane driver is kept informed of the operating status of the crane at all times. The electronic monitor system (EMS) enables him to view all parameters and status information for the Liebherr tower crane at any time. This means that any errors which occur can be localised and rectified without delay. The status information can also be viewed by the service team or the manufacturer using the LiDAT fleet management system. This guarantees that the crane delivers high availability and lengthy service.
