Mobile and crawler cranes

Enhanced safety and performance with VarioBase®

The space available on sites is often constricted. It is frequently impossible to extend all the outriggers of the mobile crane evenly. VarioBase® from Liebherr allows the crane to be used safely and flexibly in these difficult conditions. The increased safety and ease of use take the strain off the crane driver who can concentrate fully on the hoist. The enhanced range and lifting capacity means that the system's capacity has also been improved.

VarioBase® in a practical test

The video explains how VarioBase® works. A practical comparison test demonstrates the benefits of the innovative crane support system.

VarioBase®: Benefits in detail

Enhanced safety in constricted areas

Computer-based safety for crane operation

VarioBase® enables work to be carried out safely in constricted areas. The maximum lifting capacities are calculated individually and precisely for every situation. This ensures safe working practice with any chosen support base.

Lifting capacity with single-sided support. VarioBase ensures safe operation even on constricted sites. The graphic shows the maximum lifting capacity for single-sided support, for example for operating on a busy road.

Milestone for safety and increased capacity

The VarioBase® system is included in the LICCON job planner. Dispatchers can plan jobs using the variable support base in advance. The job planner is also installed in the LICCON control in the crane cab in many cranes to ensure that hoists can be simulated on the site.

Higher lifting capacity and larger working range

Increase in efficiency due to high lifting capacity

With its maximum support base, VarioBase® also delivers higher lifting capacities and a larger working range. The greatest advantages are made in the areas directly above the outriggers. The variable support base also delivers improvements for hoisting at the front and rear. The greatest increases are achieved when partial ballast is on the crane. With just a little ballast, the mobile cranes can almost achieve the lifting capacity values from the standard table with high ballast. This reduces the amount of ballast that has to be transported for crane jobs.

Awards bestowed by trade bodies

In 2014 VarioBase won the LLEAP-Award in the USA – the prize for Leadership in Lifting Equipment and Areal Platforms. ESTA - the European association of abnormal road transport and mobile cranes, presented the variable support base with an Award of Excellence in the safety category. The Baublatt Österreich trade journal named VarioBase its Innovation of the Year.
