Crawler excavators for demolition, tunnel and special projects
With more than 60 years of experience in the design and production of hydraulic crawler excavators, Liebherr is today one of the major players in the manufacture of equipment for special applications, whether demolition, tunnels construction or handling as well as many other tailor-made requests.
Every Liebherr crawler excavator is designed with one goal: to meet the demands and specifications of our customers in terms of performance, reliability and efficiency, as well as safety and comfort.
Tailor-made solutions: an equipment handbook is now available!
The Liebherr Application Center of Liebherr-France SAS studies the special requests of our customers and develops tracked excavators specially adapted to their needs. The equipment handbook contains all the tailor-made solutions already developed by Liebherr-France SAS for our customers.
The R 945 Multi-user from the Colas-Sarrazy branch
The Colas-Sarrazy branch uses an R 945, the heaviest Generation 8 model, in its “Multi-user” configuration with a 10.70 m Boom and 7.70 m Stick. The machine is in charge of cleaning the sludge tanks in one of the group’s local gravel pits. On-board systems, such as demand-driven power regulation and the Liebherr Positive Control hydraulic system, provide adequate and sufficient power to penetrate the tanks bottom. This model of nearly 45 tonnes, replacing the R 950 SME, is also distinguished by its completely new basic concept, its comfort whatever the application is and its ever better operating performance.
Long-range operations require special attachments
Excavation work at great depths requires the use of longer attachments. For such applications, Liebherr has developed “multi-user” attachments perfectly tailored to its machines. Our multi-user attachments allow operations to be carried out at distant or deep locations. This attachment version is available for crawler excavator models R 922 to R 976 Litronic. Its range varies from 15 to 23 m depending on model and type of boom.
Our R 976 - a robust and mobile excavator for Veolia
Veolia is in the business of sorting and processing secondary raw materials. They use our R 976 to quickly load dump trucks to limit the storage time of the waste. Veolia needed a machine that was robust enough to work in a dusty environment, but at the same time offered sufficient maneuverability to move it easily and safely. Therefore, the choice fell on the R 976, which is particularly well suited for this environment.
The excavator also features a powerful engine cooling system, which reduces the risk of fire during operation, and offers a spacious, soundproof, pressure-ventilated, and dust-tight cab.
A flexible excavator for more complex jobs
Veolia's missions include recycling waste to supply the world with new raw materials. The clamshell size ensures shorter processing times. Compared to older models, this excavator gives better performance in turnaround, allowing us to load our dump trucks faster. Equipped with electric joysticks, it is much easier to control and has low fuel consumption.

Alliance Group: a Liebherr R 950 Tunnel crawler excavator at the heart of the Grand Paris Express
A Liebherr R 950 Tunnel crawler excavator is being deployed on construction sites for the Grand Paris Express. As part of this huge project, our crawler excavator is in action in shaft 807 of Line 15, performing extraction work with a cutter, installing arches and handling various kinds of loose materials. The Alliance Group is very satisfied with this 45 tonne Liebherr machine.
Special underground conditions
Construction work in tunnels poses specific challenges: confined spaces, dust and limited visibility are factors that increase the difficulty of underground work. Liebherr tunnelling excavators have been developed for these specific conditions. Their narrow slewing radius allows these machines to turn in tight spaces, and the tunnel excavator has automatic height limitation, allowing it to work only within pre-set height limits. Cameras make the operator’s job even easier.
Liebherr R 940 Demolition at Melchiorre
With the R 940 Demolition, Liebherr complements its existing range of demolition excavators R 950 and R 960. The customer Melchiorre, a demolition specialist, acquired the very first model of this excavator to come out of Liebherr's production lines in Colmar.
Equipped with the Liebherr Demolition Control (LDC) as standard like all Liebherr demolition excavators, a system that allows the operator to visualize the position of the equipment and thus guarantees the stability of the excavator, the R 940 Demolition can lift higher tool weight at longer spans for more productivity.

Our R 944 C-E - a productive helper at Lafarge
Lafarge uses our R 944 C-Ein a sensitive working environment close to groundwater for material removal. Our excavator is perfectly adapted to these conditions. Compared to diesel engines, our electric excavator does not need any downtime and thus increases productivity. Furthermore, our customer Lafarge has the risk of pollution under control.
The ease of use and comfort of the machine was emphasized several times by our customer, including the GPS guidance system, which provides clear visualization underwater.
The R 944 C-E - a time-saving electric excavator
Our P 954 C – a powerful dredging excavator for difficult sea conditions at Samsun Engineering Unit
Our customer Samsun Engineering Unit uses a Liebherr dredging excavator on the Black Sea to dredge the sea floor. With a vessel equipped with a downward-opening hold, the company can move between 500 and 750 m³ per day. The bucket volume is about 4 cm³. Because the sea is not deep, they use a short boom. This has the advantage that almost all the power can be transferred to the bucket. The P 954 works reliably and flawlessly despite the sudden difficult weather con-ditions that occur time and again.
The P 954 C – a corrosion-resistant excavator
The P 954 C Liebherr dredging excavator, adapted to this salty and windy environment, is ready for action and robust, just as it was on the first day. Compared to the dredgers used in land operations, it is more robust with regard to the corrosion-resistant paint and primer.
