Cranes by the dozen: Richter Kran und Schwerlast GmbH takes delivery of an LTM 1100-5.3

  • LTM 1100-5.3 impresses with its flexibility, compact design and the latest crane control
  • Richter Kran- und Schwerlast GmbH values Liebherr’s reliable customer service
  • First deployment of the mobile crane: assembly of a tower crane in Leipzig

As the company’s twelfth mobile crane, the LTM 1100-5.3 not only enhances the capabilities of Richter Kran und Schwerlast GmbH’s Liebherr crane fleet but also marks the introduction of the new LICCON3 control to their operations. The new five-axle crane immediately proved its worth on its first assignment near Halberstadt.

“The LTM 1100-5.3 is a modern, innovative crane representing the latest technical generation. As we’re thinking ahead and aiming to position ourselves for the future, it ideally complements our fleet,” says Matthias Richter, owner of the crane and heavy haulage company of the same name. The LTM 1100-5.3 features a powerful 62-metre telescopic boom, making it two metres longer than the next most powerful Liebherr five-axle crane, the LTM 1110-5.2. The crane can carry up to 16.9 tonnes of ballast on public roads with a twelve-tonne axle load. By simply removing the ballast, it can travel with an axle load of just nine tonnes – this makes it economically mobile worldwide and offers significant advantages in terms of approvals and route permits. “For us, the new LTM is an excellent taxi crane. Thanks to its long telescopic boom, low weight and width of just 2.55 metres, we can use it flexibly.”

The LTM 1100-5.3 is the second Liebherr crane to be equipped with the LICCON3 control. “As the first crane with the new control system, the 100-tonne crane fits perfectly into our fleet,” explains Matthias Richter, whose company is active throughout Europe, from Sweden to Austria, focusing on infrastructure construction sites and network expansion projects.

First job: tower crane assembly

The new mobile crane was put to work just days after delivery: it was used to assemble a tower crane in Leipzig. After completing this single-day project, it moved on to its next assignment near Halberstadt, replacing electricity pylons belonging to grid provider 50Hertz on behalf of LTB Leitungsbau GmbH. The LTM 1100-5.3 was brought in following preparatory work completed by two loading cranes and a semi-trailer truck, both also from Richter. “We managed the entire project from start to finish. Our customers value the all-round service that we provide as a crane and heavy haulage company. We benefit from Liebherr’s reliable, fast service and approachable customer support, which enables us to ensure that our fleet is always operational,” says Matthias Richter.

Richter operates a fleet of Liebherr cranes ranging from three-axle to nine-axle models. The new LTM 1100-5.3 closes one of the last gaps in their line-up. “We now have twelve cranes, all sourced from Ehingen. This benefits our crane drivers as well, since the standardised controls across the machines make their work easier,” Richter explains with satisfaction.
