Liebherr wheel loaders at the Steinexpo 2014

  • Wheel loader L 586: World's largest hydrostatically-driven wheel loader in action
  • Wheel loader L 580 with rock shovel and rock tyres
  • High material handling performance with low operating costs

Liebherr is presenting the wheel loaders L 580 and L 586 at the Steinexpo, which can be seen in action on the demonstration site. Both machines are specially equipped for tough quarrying operations.

Largest hydrostatically-driven wheel loader in the world: Liebherr L 586

With the wheel loader L 586, Liebherr is presenting the largest hydrostatically-driven wheel loader in the world at the Steinexpo 2014. The machine is equipped with a 5.5m³ rock bucket and tyre protection chains and can be seen performing quarrying operations on the demonstration site as it loads an articulated dump truck TA 230 Litronic.

The wheel loader L 586 weighs 31,380kg in its standard version and achieves a tipping load of 20,430kg. With a 6-cylinder diesel engine from Liebherr, the L 586 has a performance of 250kW / 340HP. An automatic lubrication system is part of the standard equipment of the L 586. The machine on display is equipped with joystick steering.

In addition to the wheel loader L 586 on the demonstration site, Liebherr is also presenting the wheel loader L 580 with Z-kinematics at the Steinexpo 2014. The machine on show has a 5m³ rock bucket with delta cutter, Z40H teeth and segments as well as rock tyres.

The exhibit weighs 25,180kg in the standard version on show and achieves a tipping load of 18,500 kg. With a 6-cylinder diesel engine from Liebherr, the machine has a performance of 215kW /292 HP.

The wheel loader L 580, that Liebherr is presenting at the Steinexpo 2014, is equipped with a piston rod guard for the tilt cylinder. Moreover, it is fitted as standard with a rear view camera.

Liebherr wheel loaders for safe quarrying operations

Liebherr wheel loaders are mainly employed in the quarrying industry for loading and transporting the materials extracted, but also for excavating from walls. They achieve the highest level of material handling performance while, at the same time, keeping operating costs down. The determining factor for this is the combination of hydrostatic drive with Liebherr's own-developed electronic map-controlled Liebherr Power Efficiency (LPE) system. Compared with other machines in similar size categories, the innovative driveline concept cuts fuel consumption by as much as 25%.

The use of a hydrostatic travel drive makes it possible to install the diesel engine in a special position at the rear. Compared with conventionally driven machines, this leads to a higher tipping load at a considerably lower operating weight and more cycles per hour of operation.

The cabs of both machines have soundproofing as standard. Anti-slip steps and sturdy handrails provide safety; the fuel tank is made of steel. To protect the wheel loader during quarrying operations, a windscreen guard can also be ordered as an option.
