First main components of Liebherr HLC 150000 ready for installation

In the afternoon on March 7, 2021, the deck cargo ship BigLift Barentsz left the Liebherr site at the port of Rostock with two remarkable, giant crane components ready for installation. The white painted slewing platform, as well as the characteristic A-frame of the upcoming Heavy Lift Crane HLC 150000, are now on their way to being assembled on OHT’s next-generation offshore wind foundation vessel Alfa Lift.

The lift of the two large components was realised at the Liebherr site in Rostock using the proprietary TCC 78000 – once again proofing the importance of this powerful rail-mounted heavy-duty gantry crane.

Liebherr remains MHC market leader

Versatile mobile harbour crane technology from Liebherr is in high demand worldwide. Even in the Corona-battered year 2020, Liebherr maintains its market leadership in the mobile harbour crane product segment.

The worldwide well-positioned Liebherr service network has helped a lot during this time and through local mixed sales companies, dealers and partners we are always on site at the customer's location.

Tandem-lifting assistance: Liebherr Sycratronic

With the Sycratronic system improving the safety of tandem operations, this makes it easier for terminal operators to scale up their lift capacities to over 600 tonnes when combining two LHM 800 cranes. While the system is developed to improve crane operations in all heavy-lift sectors, it could in particular prove useful in the (offshore) wind industry where long components and tandem lift operations have become the norm.

The biggest benefits are improved efficiency and increased safety. Due to built-in safeties, the Sycratronic system allows the crane driver to fully use the load curve of the crane, while this is normally restricted to 75%.

Future ready with new ship-to-shore container cranes

The new cranes at North Sea Terminal Bremerhaven (NTB) are amongst the largest STS cranes in the world and prepare NTB for the future. Liebherr Automation Systems allows for semi-automatic moves with manual operation only required, when operating below a safe height.

There are now ten identical Liebherr STS cranes in operation at the port.

Seven at once for the 100th birthday

In 2021, our customer Oldendorff Carriers celebrates its 100th birthday. Congratulations! To realise reliable and fast transshipment operations, one of the largest dry bulk shipowner and operator in the world has put his trust in Liebherr Maritime Cranes.

Two next-generation transloaders and one transshipper will be equipped with a total of seven FTS CBG 360. Additionally, the high-performance four-rope grab cranes will feature a 10 metres eccentric platform for more flexibility and enhance the crane’s operational radius to a total of 46 metres. The two innovatively designed shallow-draft transloaders will operate in Northern Vietnam at a throughput capacity of 100 million tonnes of cargo over the next 25 years. One of those vessels, the Calypso, has already started its operation.
