Finance Data AnalystNewport News, VA
The Finance Data Analyst will create and manage BI and analytics solutions that turn data into knowledge. This position will acquire, process and summarize data for the Financial team. The analyst then uses this information to supply the organization with reports, summaries, and visualizations, thereby transforming the analytics into comprehensible, actionable insights. The analyst will also be a partner with department managers and their teams to improve understanding, insight, efficiency and effectiveness of operations and financials by designing and delivering relevant metrics and reports from LME’s systems/databases.
Responsibilities
- Works with LME business units to understand business needs and follows up with conception, analysis and realization of business intelligence solutions. Conducts interviews and meetings with key stakeholders to clarify business issues and underlying causes. Develops deep understanding of business processes and operations to ensure accuracy of business requirements and alignment of solutions to operations content.
- Working with ERP LN, LINVENT, LISA, and other tools within the financial and logistics operations, writes reports and queries using MS Access and/or BI applications.
- Coordinates and assists with the enhancement of existing cubes, reports and dashboards.
- Designs and assists with the development of monthly management reports and financial dashboards for Senior Management to provide key business insights. (Power BI, MS PowerPoint,…)
- Under the direct guidance of the Controller, works with the Financial departments to design and coordinate development of BI reports and data mining for strategic performance indicators, operational data and metrics to assist with effective, efficient and timely decisions. Ensures consistency amongst the divisions.
- Implements progressive improvement to the quality and reliability of data within the actual tools through direct projects with the Accounting, Controlling and IT departments.
- Identifies training opportunities based upon errors detected in the system and highlights this to the Controller for discussion and implementation.
- Acts as a liaison between developers and end users to ensure technical compatibility and satisfaction with solutions.
- Prepares and diagrams detailed work instructions for all designed and developed BI reports.
- Serves as liaison between Finance and the IT department for reporting topics.
- Responsible for some ERP maintenance and configuration.
Competencies
- Education and Experience: Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Computer Science, Information Technology, or related field from fouryear college or university; and three (3) to five (5) years related experience and/or training, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Advanced knowledge in Microsoft Office products such as SharePoint, Excel, Access, PowerPoint, Word and Outlook.
- Advanced knowledge and experience with Business Intelligence.
- Advanced reporting skills using SQL, T-SQL and/or PL-SQL.
- Experience with Power BI.
- Familiarity with large scale enterprise resource planning (ERP) systems.
- Knowledge of accounting principles and practices and the analysis and reporting of financial data.
- Demonstrated knowledge in data analysis.
- Demonstrated ability to make decisions; support and explain reasoning for decisions; include appropriate people in decision-making process.
- Ability to plan, organize, monitor and control projects, ensuring efficient utilization of technical and administrative resources, to achieve project objectives.
- Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from executives, managers, suppliers, customers, and the general public.
- Proficient problem solving skills and ability to convey complex business concepts in technical language.
- Action oriented with excellent follow through.
- Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, or technical procedures.
- Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, percentages.
- Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
- Ability to write reports and business correspondence.
- Travel domestically and internationally up to 15% of the time.
- Ability to obtain and maintain a valid driver’s license and passport.
