The multi-purpose vehicle for demanding port and dockside operations
The Liebherr T 60-9s Telescopic Handler is proving its mettle as a powerful multi-purpose machine at the Bamberg location of the bayernhafen port authority. Due to the combination of performance and versatility, the telescopic handler is in action across all of the port operations.
Situated on the Rhine-Main-Danube canal, the Bamberg location of bayernhafen is the trimodal logistics hub for handling of goods between road, rail and waterway in Upper Franconia. The site covers an area of 96 hectares and 450,000 tonnes of goods are transshipped from barge and rail every year. In 2022 alone, this transshipment saved the equivalent of 26,000 truck journeys and made a significant contribution to reducing CO2 emissions. A Liebherr T 60-9s telescopic handler has been in action, proving its mettle at the Bamberg site of bayernhafen for nearly a year.
The deciding factors in purchasing the telescopic handler were the multi-purpose capability and the optimum manoeuvrability. The exceptional load capacity of the powerful operating hydraulics, combined with electronic finger-tip control, allows 20-foot containers to be stacked with precision and pin-point accuracy up to the fourth level. The T 60-9s at Bamberg also covers a wide range of additional activities, ranging from site construction and working on the quay wall, to landscape maintenance of waterway embankments and winter services.
We are more than satisfied with the Liebherr Telescopic Handler because it gives us the level of multi-purpose flexibility that we rely on for our port operations. The unit is also a really big hit with our operators.

A key priority for the Bamberg site of bayernhafen is pursuing a sustainable environmental policy. To allow combustion engines to operate at near climate-neutral levels, hydrogenated vegetable oil (HVO) is used as a 100% substitute for fossil derived diesel. This substitute fuel is a fully viable alternative for operating construction machinery of all sizes, without any restriction in performance.
Liebherr Telescopic Handlers also score highly with their intelligent and sophisticated solutions to cover a wide range of potential applications: For example, the programmable constant flow rate allows for precise setting of sweeper attachment speed. The manual control package option allows driving speed to be adjusted to match the requirements of the task in hand. And All-Wheel Drive ensures that Liebherr Telescopic Handlers can transport heavy loads to exceptional heights and operate safely and securely on unpaved surfaces. So, transporting materials, such as, crushed stone, gravel and sand is not an issue. In the cab, the continuous windscreen gives the driver an excellent view upwards - ideal for safe port and dockside operations. While the fine control option lets the driver operate the hydraulics with finger-tip perfection wherever the machine is in action. All-in-all, the versatility, the multi-purpose capability and the high load capacity of the Liebherr Telescopic Handler make it a perfect match for the requirements of the bayernhafen Bamberg location.
