First Liebherr mobile crane – KönningKrane takes delivery of Liebherr LTM 1160-5.2
- New customer – KönningKrane buys first Liebherr mobile crane
- LTM 1160-5.2 expands crane fleet towards higher capacities
- 2.75 metre vehicle width and high performance are the main reasons behind the purchase decision
KönningKrane GmbH & Co KG from Stadtlohn in the north-west of North Rhine-Westphalia has bought its first Liebherr mobile crane – an LTM 1160-5.2 with a maximum lifting capacity of 180 tonnes extends its crane range towards higher capacities. Its high performance and width of just 2.75 metres were important factors behind the decision.
Verena Könning is the third generation of the family to manage the business based in Münsterland. She explains the decision to buy the Liebherr mobile crane: "The LTM 1160-5.2 is no wider than 2.75 metres and has unbeatable lifting capacities in its class. It is significantly more powerful than comparable cranes." Partner Johannes Bendfeld, also a Managing Director, continues: "Liebherr delivers innovations that make crane operations safer and more efficient, such as the VarioBase® variable support base and the VarioBallast® adjustable counterweight radius. The LTM 1160-5.2 enables us to carry all the ballast on just two vehicles without needing any additional permits. With just one ballast transport, we already have 29 tonnes of counterweight on the crane and can rent out the LTM 1160-5.2 as a 130-tonne crane. This means we can already do a large number of jobs." The LTM 1160-5.2 has a 62 metre telescopic boom and can reach lifting heights of up to 99 metres with a lattice jib.
Liebherr service has a great reputation
For Verena Könning, there are even more reasons to have a Liebherr in the company’s crane fleet: "Liebherr's service has a good reputation and the fact that we are close to the Liebherr branch in Oberhausen is definitely a benefit." Johannes Bendfeld can well imagine buying more mobile cranes from Liebherr in the future: "Liebherr cranes have the same control regardless of size. That’s a major benefit because it means operators can switch between the machines very easily.”
KönningKrane has around 20 cranes with lifting capacities ranging from 40 to 180 tonnes. In addition to renting mobile cranes and mobile construction cranes, the family-run company's service portfolio includes concrete pumps and working platforms as well as transport, recovery and tree felling. In May 2023, Marcel Könning handed over the management of the company to his daughter, Verena. He remains a member of the Executive Board.
