Annual Report 2020
A new business complex for Israel
For two years now, it has been almost impossible to imagine the skyline of Tel Aviv (Israel) without them: seven Liebherr tower cranes. On a construction site in the Bnei Brak industrial zone, they are involved in the construction of the three-tower LYFE business complex, steadily growing into the sky with it. Upon completion in 2021, the buildings will tower over the city on the Mediterranean Sea at 160, 173 and 230 metres.
Hola Panamá
Three years after its foundation, Liebherr Panama S.A. starts building its new headquarters in Panama City. Construction is expected to be finished in the first half of 2021. The premises with an area of 4,250,00 square metres will include both a warehouse and offices for 81 excellently trained technical support staff. New professional training rooms allow for company specialists and customers to receive on-site training to the highest Liebherr Mining standards.
All-electric transport
Emission-free, virtually noiseless concrete transport and a battery that is simply charged overnight: Liebherr develops the first fully electric truck mixer in cooperation with Designwerk. Available in two versions, with 10 and 12 cubic metres drums, the ETM 1005 and ETM 1205 set a milestone in environmentally friendly concrete transport.
50 years – UNITED by success
A reason to celebrate: Liebherr settled in the USA in 1970. Five decades later, the Group sells product from all its segments there and is represented at 14 locations. To mark its 50th anniversary in the US, Liebherr presents two very special machines at Conexpo in Las Vegas: the R 938 Litronic crawler excavator and the LTM 1120-4.1 mobile crane, both sporting the Stars and Stripes design.
Around the world and back
Day after day, the S-Bahn trains in Munich (Germany) cover a distance equivalent to a journey around the globe and back. On the Marienhof construction site in the heart of the city, six Liebherr machines play a major role in the construction of one of the central access structures to the second main line. In addition to two cable excavators with slurry wall cutters and -grabs, the LB 24 and LB 44 drilling rigs are being used in the extension of the S-Bahn. An LR 1250 crawler crane lifts the reinforcement cages, which weigh up to 55 tonnes and are 55 metres high, into position.
To the airport with hydrogen
Success for Liebherr’s developers: Liebherr technology is now on board the hydrogen-powered shuttle buses manufactured by Shanghai Automobile Group Co, Ltd, which shuttle between Hongqiao and Pudong airports in Shanghai. The integrated electric compressor is a crucial component of the PROME P390 fuel cell system on board the buses. The system received the mandatory Chinese certification (CCC) at the beginning of 2020.
50 stays for 50 heroes
Not every hero wears a cape. To thank so-called frontline heroes for their selfless efforts during the coronavirus pandemic, the Europe Hotel & Resort in Killarney, Ireland raffles 50 luxury nights for two. From carers to volunteers, a total of 24,624 people are nominated by their family and friends.
New digital ways
A LHM 420 mobile harbour crane makes Liebherr history. Since travel restrictions prevented service technicians from accompanying it on its journey from Germany to Argentina, it becomes the first crane to be assembled completely via the Remote Service App. This enables the Liebherr service technicians to follow every step of the assembly process live, even without being on-site in person. The assembly is a success – even thousands of kilometres away.
First Monobrand Store opens
From August 20, visitors to the new Liebherr Monobrand Store in Vienna (Austria) can experience the world of Liebherr refrigerators and freezers in a unique atmosphere on more than 170 square meters. The division into themed worlds offers a quick and needs-oriented overview of the entire product range to optimally accompany customers on their way to the individual dream-appliance. The focus lies on customer advice and a comprehensive range of services.
Supersonic air conditioning
Liebherr-Aerospace will develop and supply the air management system for Aerion's new supersonic business jet AS2. One of the core components of the system will be an electric air conditioning unit, which enables more efficient and environmentally friendly aircraft operation. The air required by the system will be drawn in from the outside and not from the engines, as is usually the case.
Groundbreaking at Erzberg
In cooperation with VA Erzberg GmbH, Liebherr develops a trolley assist system for the diesel-electric T 236 Mining Truck. Successful tests on a 500-metre route are followed by the groundbreaking for a five kilometres long Trolley line in the world's largest siderite ore mine in Eisenerz (Austria). By moving to electric energy for the six T 236, 3 million litres of diesel will be saved per year.
Eight axles, maximum power
The world's first Liebherr LTM 1650-8.1 mobile crane is handed over to its new owner. The eight-axle model is the successor to the LTM 1500-8.1 and, depending on the telescopic boom guying, boasts a 15 to 50 percent increase in lifting capacity compared to its predecessor. With a lifting capacity of 700 tonnes and quick and simple assembly and disassembly of the rear outrigger box, the crane is in use for Mammoet in the Netherlands.
TA 230 Litronic – all digital
Liebherr unveils the first representative of the new generation of articulated dump trucks as part of a live digital product presentation. Based on comprehensive market and customer analyses, the TA 230 Litronic was redesigned, equipped with state-of-the-art technical instruments and tested to the limit under the highest quality standards in extensive test phases. With this launch, Liebherr is now a full-liner in the earthmoving sector.
"Digital Hub" in a prime location
One year after construction started, Liebherr-Hausgeräte GmbH moves into its new premises in Science Park III in Ulm (Germany). In addition to sales and services, the new building also houses the digitalisation department. This is the ideal prerequisite for future-oriented digital work. The proximity of the innovation centre to local universities makes Liebherr an attractive employer for students and junior staff.
Reaching new dimensions
Liebherr currently delivers the largest worm slewing drives in the world. The modules, consisting of a drive and a bearing unit, have a diameter of 1.72 metres and weigh over 1.4 tonnes. They turn the sails of the innovative sail hybrid drive by a leading manufacturer in the maritime sector. The use of wind power reduces fuel costs by up to 20 percent – a breakthrough for the maritime industry and another contribution to economical and ecological navigation by Liebherr.
Experiencing gear technology and automation virtually
The virtual Performance Days Europe created by Liebherr-Verzahntechnik GmbH are a three-day event for innovation, technology and networking. In the virtual Tech Arena, different products are presented such as the LGG 500 and LK 280 DC gear grinding machines or the SECLA clamping technology, an innovation in the field of clamping concepts. In addition, an innovative, automated method for the assembly of battery packs is on show. The event becomes a platform for technology exchange.
The world's first battery-powered crawler crane
Ending the year on a high note: with the LR 1250.1 unplugged, Liebherr presents the world's first battery-powered crawler crane in a brand new design. Model number one goes to Kynningsrud Nordic Crane AS in Norway, which uses the crane in Oslo. An investment for the future, considering the Norwegian capital’s goal to be independent from fossil energy by 2030.
