The duty cycle crawler crane that changed Liebherr

Sometimes a single decision can establish a new era. Building the first Liebherr duty cycle crawler crane and presenting it as a world-first at Bauma 1980 was one of them. Now the first HS 870, the forefather of construction machinery production in Nenzing (Austria), has returned.

The construction of the HS 870 prototype with the serial number 181001 marked a turning point in the production history at the ship crane builder Liebherr in Nenzing. 40 years later, the vintage machine was fully restored by a team of mechanics, fitters, engineers and apprentices. Today, visitors and employees can admire the gem as part of Liebherr's history.

The latest Liebherr story takes you on a journey into the past of production history at the Nenzing site, meets one of the men who built the HS 870 and tells of a very special reunion.
