What does a wine storage cabinet do?

Maturing and storage, just like in a wine cellar.

You don’t have a wine cellar at home? No problem – our wine storage cabinets offer similar conditions to those of a wine cellar. A constant temperature is maintained throughout the interior of these appliances. They can be adjusted to between +5°C and +20°C, depending on your requirements. Wine storage cabinets are ideal for the long-term storage and maturing of wines. However, depending on the set temperature, these appliances can also hold a large supply of wine at drinking temperature.

The ideal storage temperature for all wines lies between +10°C and +12°C. It is important that the temperature stays as constant as possible. Only then can a wine’s natural harmony of flavours be preserved.

The quality of the ambient air is a decisive factor in the maturing of wine during storage. That’s because all kinds of odours can be transferred to the wine – and negatively affect it.

Your Liebherr offers:

All wine storage cabinets from Liebherr have an integrated FreshAir activated charcoal filter which ensures optimal air quality. The activated charcoal captures all kinds of odours. The FreshAir activated charcoal filter exchanges the air to prevent odours from the ambient air reaching the interior of the cabinet and distorting the flavour of the wine. The Vinidor freestanding and fully integrated appliances have their own FreshAir activated charcoal filter in each wine safe. In UWT and WT series appliances, there is a FreshAir activated charcoal filter in the bridge between the two areas. We recommend replacing the FreshAir activated charcoal filter once a year. It can be ordered as an accessory and is easy to replace.

Ideal humidity.

The right humidity is an important factor for the long-term storage of wine. If it is under 50 percent, even the best natural cork begins to shrink. More and more oxygen infiltrates the bottle and causes the alcohol to evaporate. The fill level drops and the risk of oxidation increases. This makes wines progressively sweeter until they spoil completely. With a humidity of over 50 percent, wine cabinets from Liebherr offer the best conditions for corks and wine. The high level of humidity in wine storage cabinets is achieved thanks to the generous size of the evaporator system and the special circulated air regulation in the refrigerated wine cabinets.

Protection from vibrations.

Specially developed, exceptionally low-vibration compressors ensure gentle storage of wines in wine cabinets from Liebherr. In the new Vinidor models, the entire refrigeration system is installed with cushioning to prevent the transference of vibrations. The wine is stored in a vibration-free zone and the appliances themselves are also very quiet during operation.

Ideal positioning.

The wine can mature in peace on the stable, handmade wooden shelves. These are not painted to ensure that the wine is not damaged by any paint vapours. The handmade shelves made from untreated wood are optimally designed for safe storage of Bordeaux bottles. Of course, you can also store other bottle shapes just as conveniently. In such a case, the bottle capacity will reduce accordingly. Our tip: if you store the wine bottles directly next to each other, you can make full use of the capacity of the appliances.

Gentle closing.

The SoftSystem soft stop mechanism ensures particularly gentle door closing and prevents harmful vibrations. From an opening angle of approximately 45° for freestanding and 30° for fully integrated appliances, the door closes automatically.

UV protection from Liebherr.

Wine bottles are almost always tinted – this is because ultraviolet rays are dangerous for all wines. However, the bottle alone does not provide sufficient protection from this harmful light.

Insulated glass doors with UV protection.

Refrigerated wine cabinets from Liebherr are equipped with UV-resistant insulated glass to minimise the impact of UV rays. The UV protection is the result of a special two-pane construction: a tinted pane of glass on the inside and a metallised Low-E pane on the outside. This combination of glass almost completely reflects the harmful UV rays and effectively prevents them from impairing the quality of the wine.

LED lighting.

Innovative technology ensures even lighting of the interior without any UV exposure. The LED light spectrum used does not contain any ultraviolet rays. And thanks to the minimal heat generation of the LEDs, the wines can also be illuminated even over a longer period without the bottles warming up at any point.

Barossa Valley Syrah - For The Love of Wine

Fraser McKinley has reframed the possibilities of what Barossa wine can be. Sourced from small plots of vines (some significantly old), which he tends with organic principles, his wines are made using only whole bunches, with no adds bar a touch of sulphur. Blending across sites, barrels and even vintages, McKinley remakes the puzzle of components in surprising ways, creating wines that tell stories of time, place and people. He was crowned Young Gun of Wine in 2014.
