Project Manager - Customer SupportNewport News, VA
The project manager – customer support is responsible for planning, directing, and coordinating designated projects to ensure that goals and objectives are achieved within established time frames and budget constraints. This role requires collaboration with customer support, product support, parts operations, engineering and training teams. The project manager provides an overview of project portfolios through dashboards, presentations, and reports. Management reserves the right to assign additional tasks as needed.
The project manager utilizes lean methodologies, continuous improvement, process optimization, change implementation, and operational excellence to drive project success. A successful candidate should demonstrate competencies in communication skills, problem solving, team collaboration, and timeline management.
Responsibilities
- Develop and manage a comprehensive project portfolio aligned with the company’s strategic objectives.
- Contribute to the scheduling and prioritization of projects based on company strategy.
- Review project proposals to determine time frames, funding constraints, staffing needs, and resource allocation for various project phases.
- Establish work plans and staffing requirements for each project phase, arranging for recruitment or assignment of personnel as needed.
- Organize adherence to detailed product specifications, ensuring compliance with standards and legal requirements.
- Act as a liaison with external agents and stakeholders involved in projects.
- Direct and coordinate activities of project personnel to ensure projects progress on schedule and within budget, reviewing status reports and adjusting plans as necessary.
- Monitor project progress, identify risks, and prepare comprehensive project reports for management and clients.
- Work on process improvement projects using effective tools.
- Identify and resolve problems promptly, developing alternative solutions in both individual and group settings.
- Collect and analyze data, ensuring administrative tasks are completed accurately and on time.
- Coordinate multiple tasks and streamline processes and organization documents.
Competencies
- Education and Experience: Bachelor's degree (B.A.) from a four-year college or university; or one to two years of relevant experience; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Knowledge of mechanical, hydraulic, and electrical control systems, as well as diesel engines is an asset.
- Proficiency in project management software (e.g., MS Project, Excel, Word).
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail, with the ability to manage multiple priorities effectively.
- Effective communication and presentation skills, capable of engaging groups of customers or colleagues.
- Ability to keep projects on time and deliver with excellence.
- Domestic and international travel up to 20% of the time.
- Valid driver’s license and passport required.
- Ability to obtain and maintain regional and site-specific safety certifications.
