Mobile crane LTM 1300-6.2 positions massive hot water storage tank

In February the Airbus Plant in Bremen installed a massive tank to store hot water from its power plant. The Liebherr LTM 1300-6.2 mobile crane operated by Bremen-based Kranverleih Sommer took charge of the unloading and positioning of the 50-tonne steel tank.

To make it easier to transport the 22 metre tank was delivered upside down on a low loader. That meant that the hot water tank was first placed on large rollers and then turned into position. The mobile crane then hoisted the tank on to a prepared foundation. When picking up the load the 300-tonne crane was set to the largest radius it required for this job 14 metres.

Sommer took delivery of one of the first models of the new LTM 1300-6.2 in autumn last year. Since then it has used the crane universally.

Björn Sommer, second-in-command at the company explains: “The crane can be set up quickly and easily. Work with the long telescopic boom can also be carried out while a larger crane with guying would normally be required. That means that a wide range of jobs can be carried out at lower cost.”
