After individual cars had been retrofitted at DB’s Nuremberg plant, a train of the ICE-3 fleet (first type series) with new air cycle air conditioning systems began a test phase in daily passenger service at the end of June 2015. The test lasted several months. The team from Liebherr-Transportation Systems had installed additional sensors and measuring technology specifically for the test in order to record extensive operating data and thereby enable a substantially more in-depth diagnosis of the air cycle systems. The goal of the test was to verify the performance and reliability of the units during daily passenger service. The test train was subject to close monitoring, especially in the hot summer months of July and August. In order to make the conditions as real as possible, DB operated the train with the greatest possible occupancy rate during that time. Together with DB, Liebherr is currently carrying out precise evaluations and assessments of the data collected.
