Lower maintenance costs: Single-engine concept for large mobile cranes

We use an innovative drive concept for the crane superstructure on new models with five or more axles: The superstructure is powered by the engine in the undercarriage using a mechanical shaft. The power is transferred from the distributor gear in the undercarriage via two mitre gears through the centre of the slewing ring to the pump distributor gear in the superstructure.

  • The undercarriage engine delivers enough power for crane operations at all times – even when running at low speed.
  • The removal of the superstructure engine means increased economy and reduced maintenance work.
  • The weight reduction due to the lack of superstructure engine is used to increase the crane’s lifting capacity.

Fuel consumption down.

ECOmode on.

We use the term ECOmode to describe the additional savings made possible by the single-engine concept:

  • Fuel consumption is reduced by automatically disconnecting the complete pump drive unit when the engine is idling.
  • But when power is required, it can be reconnected in seconds by the smart crane control system.

CO2 emissions massively reduced.

Thanks to HVO fuel

Since September 2021 we have been fuelling all our mobile and crawler cranes with HVO fuel, made from hydrogenated vegetable oils. This fuel, based on renewable energy, makes a valuable contribution to limiting global emissions of greenhouse gases. During operation, it enables CO2 emissions to be reduced by up to 90%.
