At the harbour’s edge: a challenging mission for Liebherr’s mobile crane in Mallorca

A Liebherr LTM 1650-8.1 mobile crane dismantles the 72-meter aluminum mast of a super yacht at the Port of Palma de Mallorca.

Early in the morning, at the Port of Palma de Mallorca, the Liebherr LTM 1650-8.1 mobile crane rolls off the car ferry for a special job. It was specially brought to the island from the mainland to dismantle a fragile 72-meter-long, 24-ton aluminum rig of a super yacht.

The Grúas Pol team, supported by Grúas Leman and RSB Rigging Solutions, mastered the task with precision and finesse. The rigging, including the mast and wire rigging, was prepared over the course of ten days to ensure a safe lift. A second Liebherr crane was used to move the rigging into position on transport trestles in the shipyard. During the 12 to 18 weeks in the shipyard, usual maintenance work, including cleaning and painting, is carried out. This is followed by careful reassembly onboard.

The latest Liebherr story accompanies this exceptionally demanding mission.
