Always one step ahead

With a view to the future, we are constantly working to further develop our hydraulic components with great innovative strength. In this way, we are making ourselves ready for different requirements of the future. In addition to sensor solutions and their efficient use in hydraulic cylinders, we are also researching alternative piston rod coatings. This is how we succeed in continuing to reliably support our customers in various applications.

Fibre composite technology

The targeted combination of carbon fibres and plastic creates an innovative material (CRP) whose mechanical properties can be specifically adapted to the requirements of the final products.

This technology allows the manufacturing of numerous products that show comparable or better properties than steel and offer significant advantages, especially in lightweight designs.

Fibre-reinforced composites: unlimited potential

Fibre-reinforced composites can make a significant contribution to improving efficiency and conserving resources in various industries by reducing weight.

What is the purpose of using fibre composite solutions? CRP offers characteristics equivalent to those of steel components at a much lower weight. Therefore, we set forth our research efforts to ensure even greater weight savings, while maintaining the same level of performance.

In this way, we contribute significantly to the increase in efficiency and saving of resources in many industrial sectors. We are currently examing new ways of integrating CRP fibre composites in series production.

Reliable cylinder sensors

For the optimal control of complex hydraulic systems, we integrate a wide range of sensor technology into our hydraulic cylinders. This makes it possible to implement (partially) automated processes and procedures that increase the productivity of mobile machinery, among other things. Furthermore, we prepare our products for Industrie 4.0. The use of sensors is also essential for safety-critical applications.

Liebherr offers integrated limit switches and proximity switches for its cylinders. In addition to our hydraulic cylinder portfolio, systems for position transducers and position detection as well as force measurement are provided.

Force measurement within hydraulic cylinder

We are working at full speed on new technologies and methods with which we can make hydraulic cylinders even smarter. With the help of an integrated force measuring element in the hydraulic cylinder, forces can be measured even more dynamically and precisely. This in turn creates the prerequisite for higher productivity, efficiency and more safety in daily use in various areas of application.

Thanks to the highly dynamic and precise measurements, higher life expectancies are also conceivable in the future, which will play a decisive role in the area of condition monitoring, but also in the topic of downsizing.

In the manufacture of hydraulic cylinders, new developments are essential in many areas. In order to guarantee our customers a future-proof and diverse product range, we are working on alternative piston rod coatings and coating processes. In this way we can ensure reliable protection of the piston rod in the application.

Alternative piston rod coating

Did you know that piston rod coatings play an important role in the manufacture of hydraulic cylinders? Among other things, they protect the piston rod from corrosion and wear.

In order to be able to offer alternatives to the hard chrome coating used at Liebherr, we have been researching and developing in this area for several years. This development work enables us to ensure a diverse product range for the future. Our selection is based primarily on the factors of economy and quality.
