Annual Report 2020
On the platform
Getting on and off a train over steps, crevices and edges can be quite a challenge, especially for passengers with handicaps or impairments. In Chicago, Illinois (USA), Liebherr helps reduce those barriers and supplies level control systems for the Chicago Transit Authority’s modernized 7000 series urban rail vehicles. When a trolley enters the station, a sensor records the platform height. Based on this height measurement, Liebherr's level control system adjusts the vehicle’s floor to the height level of the platform at the stations. This way of barrier-free boarding and alighting of trains can also be found in other major cities around the world, such as the Austrian capital Vienna. At the largest transport project in Europe
The Grand Paris Express, is an automated transit network, which is to become the new metro of the Paris capital region with its 68 new stations and 200 kilometres of additional tracks. Starting in May 2018, Liebherr has to date delivered numerous 1000 EC-H 40 High-Top tower cranes with very high lifting capacities on the construction sites of the Grand Paris Express. The 1000 EC-H 40 is currently the largest Liebherr tower crane model operating in France.Boring through hard rock
Mumbai (India) is building a new metro line. This requires boring two new 2.8 km long tunnels under the metropolis. But the mixed grounds in Mumbai consist of basalt, shale, tuff and breccia. Also, water pressures of up to 2 bar are possible here. Such mixed geology poses particular challenges to both tunnel boring machines and components. Here, Liebherr’s reliable main bearings endure high continuous loads and ensure fail-safe drilling. And this is only one example of advanced components for tunneling used across the world. At the port
One of the largest container terminals in West Africa, the Apapa Container Terminal in Lagos (Nigera), handles approximately one million containers every year. The efficient loading and unloading of thousands of cargo between ship and land is a challenging task. At the port, Liebherr maritime cranes and port equipment ensure that goods from all over the world are reliably shipped. Liebherr maritime cranes are of course not only to be found at this 55 hectare terminal but also in ports around the world. In the socket
When it comes to electricity, Adelaide (Australia) ranks as one of the greenest metropolises in the world. 2020, the Adelaide City council made the next step and is now the first in South Australia to use 100 per cent renewable energy for its municipal facilities. Today, many cities around the globe are working on a future with renewable energy, like wind power. Liebherr is a powerful partner for the wind industry and offers convincing solutions for a wide range of requirements: On the one hand, components manufactured by Liebherr are installed directly into wind turbines. On the other hand, the company’s mobile, crawler, offshore and tower cranes, for example, are used for erecting wind turbines and constructing wind farms. In the kitchen
Every household needs a refrigerator and not only in Berlin (Germany). With Liebherr’s wide variety of cooling systems, the need for freshness and convenience in the modern household is satisfied around the world. For decades, Liebherr has been striving to produce energy-efficient and innovative technology to make everyday life easier. By the way, Liebherr produces around 2.3 million refrigerators and freezers a year – that would be enough to equip every household in Berlin. On the train
It may not be evident at first sight, but Liebherr technology travels on many public transport vehicles. There are Liebherr heating, ventilation, air-conditioning systems on subways, trains and trams all over the globe. In a metropolis like Shanghai (China) for instance, modern mobility is crucial: Liebherr’s environmentally friendly technologies power the newly developed zero-emission passenger shuttle buses which run on hydrogen. At the airport
Passengers travelling to and from Mexico City International Airport – South America’s biggest airport – aren't the only ones getting in touch with Liebherr. Liebherr works on and supplies the latest aerospace technology to many international aircraft manufacturers. This technology ranges from landing gears and flight controls to air conditioning and electronics. Liebherr’s goal is to help make the future of flying greener and safer. On the construction site
Building the tallest buildings, realising ultramodern architecture: Liebherr’s concrete technology, cranes and other construction machines enable the development of state-of-the-art living spaces in Dubai, the flourishing metropolis in the United Arab Emirates. Liebherr machines can be spotted at many construction sites in Dubai as well as other cities around the globe.
