Next generation of RL series

The Liebherr crane specialists have designed a compact and versatile solution to shape the future of offshore maintenance processes. A new approach advances the ram luffing crane (RL) series to meet the future demands of worldwide offshore customers and their individual specifications. A consistently expressed customer preference is to achieve the most compact design possible with a small radius and low overall height. Find out what the new RL has to offer in our highlight video and visit the website for more details about the advanced crane series.

New design approach

Based on our customers feedback, we optimized the RL to become the most compact maintenance crane with a reduced construction height and a tail radius of less than 3 metres.

Maintenance on a new level

The new design offers plenty of space for maintenance with additional service platforms and lots of room inside the slewing column. In addition, LiMain is available for this crane series.

Versatility as a basic principle

On both fixed and floating offshore installations, especially in the wind power industry and in the oil and gas sector, RL cranes are used for maintenance and supply work.

Euroports invests in emission-free LPS 420 E

Liebherr will be supplying Euroports Germany with an all-electric portal crane next year. All crane movements of the pioneering machine will be carried out by means of emission-free electric motors. With this sustainable investment, Euroports is increasing the handling capacity of its bulk terminal at Rostock's overseas port.

"We want to further strengthen the handling performance at our bulk terminal. In the coming year, we are not only investing in a new crane to be even more efficient, but we also want to make our contribution to sustainability," says Karsten Lentz Managing Director of the Euroports Germany Group.

Automated container cranes for Oman

Liebherr Container Cranes will supply four STS cranes and twelve RTG cranes with Liebherr Remote Operator Stations (ROS) to the Port of Duqm in Oman. Supplied without a cabin the cranes will be operated utilising a combination of remote control and automation. Automation will take care of the majority of the cycle with operator intervention only required when operating below a predefined safe height. Each Liebherr STS will be connected to its own dedicated ROS.

The centrally located remote operation facility will also host the ROS for control of the automated RTGs. The cabinless RTGs feature automation over the stack with remote control only required for container pick or place from the truck trailers, or for exception handling. Four ROS operators will operate the twelve RTGs.

Rolling Stones on the ocean

The Rolling Stones are one of the most popular bands in the world. No wonder that the individual band members serve as eponyms for special vessels from time to time. Our customer dship carriers, a global provider of ocean transportation services, has done exactly this: naming multi-purpose vessels MV Mick, MV Keith, MV Ronnie and MV Charlie.

All of the mentioned vessels are equipped with two Liebherr ship cranes type CBB 3800, each with a maximum lifting capacity of 250 tonnes. Except for the MV Charlie, all ships have already entered service, the last one will follow at the beginning of 2022. Then the band will be reunited - at least on the world's ocean.

Acciaierie d'Italia places major order

The leading steel manufacturer in Italy, Acciaierie d'Italia recently signed a contract with Liebherr about four new LPS 800 portal cranes for handling raw materials for steel production. The LPS 800 is the strongest and largest portal crane in the Liebherr portfolio.

The four units operate 100% on electric power and thus enable emission-free bulk handling. They also have the Liebherr hybrid system Pactronic installed, which gives the crane additional power when needed.

Rhenus Group relies on Liebherr

Rhenus Midgard is replacing a more than 20-year-old Liebherr LHM 320 with a new Liebherr machine. The LHM 420, recently delivered by project logistics specialist Rhenus Project Logistics, will mainly handle breakbulk and containers at the Dradenau Terminal in the Port of Hamburg.

Electric drive in high demand

Electrification is entering a new market phase. A significant shift in focus for electrified cranes can be observed. In the 2021 sales year, demand for Liebherr mobile harbour cranes with an e-drive has risen sharply. Compared to 2019, the number of units equipped with an electric motor has even doubled.

Liebherr has been successfully using a hybrid drive concept consisting of a diesel engine and an electric drive for the mobile harbour cranes product segment for over 20 years. In addition to emission-free handling, the benefits of e-drive include cost savings and less maintenance.
