The new EC-B cranes win design prize

The jury as well as the audience at the award ceremony in Ludwigsburg (Germany) was surprised to find a tower crane among the candidates for a design prize. Along with some other award-winning objects, the Liebherr tower crane was the largest product by far.

"Here, the little scope left for the design of such highly functional machines was used very effectively. In particular the cabin, which is often only a purchased part, was specifically redesigned: Inside it provides a humanised workplace and the exterior design sends out clear brand signals. Even the ballast elements are formally integrated," said the jury.

The Gold Award was presented by Katrin Schütz, undersecretary of state in the Ministry of Economics, Labour and Housing of the Federal State of Baden-Württemberg. The EC-B prevailed over its competitors in the investment goods category and impressed with its clear and dynamic lines as well as with additional customer benefits also included in the design – such as the advertising space integrated in the counter-jib.

In the meantime, the EC-B series was awarded several times for its design – already in April, Liebherr Tower Cranes had won the international Red Dot Design Award 2019 in the "Product Design" category.
