Liebherr Wheel Loader L 550: Greatest Level of Efficiency in All Applications

  • L 550 as an example of Liebherr’s expanding wheel loader product range
  • Liebherr manufactures wheel loaders for the Chinese market in Dalian, P. R. China
  • Hydrostatic driveline: Reduced fuel consumption and increased safety at work

At Bauma China 2016, Liebherr is exhibiting the wheel loader L 550, an example of its expanding wheel loader product range for China and less / non regulated countries. Due to its hydrostatic driveline, the L 550 is – like all Liebherr wheel loaders – very fuel efficient, consuming up to 25 percent less fuel compared with conventional wheel loaders under the same conditions. The optimum weight distribution of the machine increases productivity at work, because larger buckets can be used to handle more material with each loading cycle.

The Liebherr wheel loader L 550 on display is powered by a 147 kW / 200 HP diesel engine. Equipped with a 3-5-m³ bucket the wheel loader achieves a tipping load of 12,350 kg at an operating weight of 17,350 kg. Its exhaust emissions are below the limits of the Chinese regulation GOU III and Stage II / Tier 2. The optimum weight distribution combined with a wide range of attachments for different applications supports businesses to benefit from increased productivity during daily operation. This is made possible in particular by using larger buckets compared to other type of wheel loaders in the same class.

Based on decades of experience in developing and producing wheel loaders, Liebherr manufactures wheel loaders for the Chinese market in Dalian, P. R. China, in close cooperation with the Liebherr wheel loader competence centre in Bischofshofen, Austria. Liebherr manufactures five wheel loader models at the Dalian site, the L 580, L 566, L 550 and the two all-round wheel loaders L 538 and L 524. Liebherr wheel loaders are robust machines with the high performance and the low operating costs for which Liebherr is well-known.

Hydrostatic driveline: Reduced fuel consumption and increased safety at work

Liebherr has been promoting the development of wheel loaders with low fuel consumption for decades. Due to Liebherr’s hydrostatic driveline, Liebherr wheel loaders require on average up to 25 percent less diesel compared with other wheel loaders of the same size.

The combination of the hydrostatic travel drive and the special mounting position of the diesel engine enables movement of high load-weights. Hydraulic braking action of the hydrostatic driveline increases safety at work. Designed according to the company’s high quality standards, the L 550 wheel loader operates reliably – even in the toughest conditions.

L 550 plays key role at Chinese Shawan Shunxing Mining Ltd

One L 550 Liebherr wheel loader is working since 2015 at the Chinese Shawan Shunxing Mining Ltd. The customer needed a reliable wheel loader able to work for three shifts in order to keep the production output high. To meet the requested demand and match the production capacity the customer purchased a L 550 wheel loader made by Liebherr.

The main task of this wheel loader is to load crushed limestone into trucks which deliver the raw material to the cement plant. So far, the L 550 has been working reliably for more than 1,200 operating hours. Due to the wheel loader’s hydrostatic transmission technology, the customer’s feedback is that the L 550’s working efficiency is much higher than that of local producers’ wheel loaders (with 12,000 kg tipping load). All components of Liebherr wheel loaders have been tested rigorously, in the most demanding applications for prolonged periods of time. In this special application the fuel consumption of the L 550 per operating hour is up to 40% lower than the company’s previous machines. In comparison, the L 550 consumers 10 liters of fuel less per operating hour than a comparable wheel loader from a Chinese brand in the same application.
