Liebherr to Supply Hydraulic Actuators for Leveling Systems of Low-Floor Trams in Boston
Liebherr-Transportation Systems has once again been selected by Construcciones y Auxiliar de Ferrocarriles, S.A. (CAF) to supply hydraulic actuators for leveling systems. These will be employed in low-floor trams in Boston, Massachusetts (USA).
The follow-up contract comprises 192 actuators in two different versions for a total of 24 railcars. The low-floor trams built by Spanish company CAF from Beasain will be operated by the Massachusetts Department of Transportation (MassDOT) in the capital of the US Federal State of Massachusetts. Delivery is expected to start at the end of 2016 and will be complete in 2018.
The hydraulic actuators enable precise adjustment of the vehicle’s entrance height to the level of the platform. Passengers with impaired mobility or those with bicycles or prams can board and de-board easier.
The co-operation between Liebherr-Transportation Systems and CAF began in 2013 with the delivery of actuators for leveling systems for the metropolitan trams in Houston, Texas (USA). Additional contracts followed for trams in the US-American cities of Cincinnati, Ohio, and Kansas City, Missouri.
“The new contract underlines our leading position in the area of hydraulic actuators in the North American market. We are delighted that CAF places such trust in us”, said Dirk Junghans, Managing Director Sales, Marketing and Customer Service at Liebherr-Transportation Systems GmbH & Co KG.
