Liebherr at OTC 2017 in Houston

This year, once again, the Liebherr Group will be represented with two of its divisions at the international Offshore Technology Conference (OTC), one of the world's biggest offshore exhibitions. OTC 2017 will be opening its doors to visitors from 2 - 4 May in Houston, Texas.

In the German Pavilion on stand 3625, the Maritime Cranes division is presenting Liebherr’s biggest offshore crane, the Heavy Lift Crane (HLC 295000). With a lifting capacity of 3,000 tonnes at more than 50 metres and a maximum lifting height in excess of 170 metres, the crane can be used for the installation of offshore wind farms and for decommissioning.

Another highlight at this year’s exhibition is the crane simulator LiSIM. It is simulating offshore scenarios with the Liebherr board offshore crane, type BOS 4200. The BOS series is one of the most successful products in the offshore crane segment of the company. This is due to the compact and function-oriented design.

The Liebherr simulators ensure realistic crane driver training, since they are equipped with the original crane control. Furthermore the safety in terms of handling of the crane will be increased, as well as productivity, whereby cost-efficiency in daily use can be improved. Such training is the basis for all crane operators at Liebherr. The LiSIM simulators are available in various models – from the compact version to the conventional cabin solutions and the fully-equipped 40ft container model.

The components division of the Liebherr Group will be presenting to the professional visitors selected products from its portfolio of gearboxes, large diameter bearings and diesel engines. The high-performance components and system solutions developed by Liebherr are perfectly suited for use in a wide variety of maritime applications, such as cranes, ship propulsion systems and special equipment, such as pipe laying vessels or jackup rigs. Comprehensive development and after-sales services round off the portfolio. The core competences of Liebherr in the maritime and offshore sector include the design and manufacturing of large diameter bearings of many different types. Liebherr offers one-piece bearings with diameters between 800 mm and 7,500 mm. Diameters over 7,500 mm are produced in segmented configuration.

Alongside the wide product variety, customers appreciate the application-specific engineering and exceptional quality of Liebherr. According to customer requirements, individual configurations and calculations are possible, using the latest research and development methods, including adjacent construction. As an experienced partner, Liebherr can boast far-reaching application know-how and can optimise its components for specific applications.

A combined exhibit of ball bearing and roller bearing slewing ring provides an example of the extensive portfolio of large diameter bearings. Also on show will be various examples of coating possibilities. For reliable protection against corrosion and the extreme wear-and-tear in maritime environment conditions, special coating systems are also offered.

Liebherr's gearboxes and rope winches round off the product range in the maritime segment. The gearbox portfolio from Liebherr includes, for example, nine different slewing drive sizes, from the DAT 200 to the DAT 600.

Liebherr also expands its planetary plug-in gearbox portfolio with PEG 1200, which is the largest type executed so far. The coaxial planetary gearboxes can be executed as a two, three or four stage model with the gear transmission ratio of i = ca. 20 – 630*. Thereby the maximum dynamic torque in line with FEM 1.001 comprises 1,250 Nm.

In terms of rope winches, these comprise above all large offshore rope winches with a diameter of up to three meters and a traction force of 2,700 kNm.

Among the exhibits on show, there is particular focus on individual solutions in the field of propulsion and lifting systems. An example of this is the DAT 1000 slewing drive exhibit. This is the largest special gearbox developed and manufactured by Liebherr to date, with a maximum dynamic torque of 620,000 Nm. The DAT 1000 finds its specific application in the slewing mechanism of offshore heavy-duty cranes.

For the first time, Liebherr is presenting its engine portfolio at OTC 2017. The D9620 diesel engine on show from the new D96XX series distinguishes itself by its high performance of up to 2,500 hp, its compact design and its best-in-class power per weight ratio. The D9620 also offers optimised reliability and complies with all applicable emission regulations (for Tier 4, with the use of an SCR system). The engine is therefore particularly suitable for use in well servicing applications.
