1000th Liebherr 81 K.1 fast-erecting crane delivered

At the end of June, Liebherr’s Tower Crane Division delivered its 1000th 81 K.1 since its launch back in 2016. The crane continues the successful run of the K series, particularly that of its predecessor, the 81 K. The Liebherr fast-erecting crane went to a family-run business in Ruhpolding, Bavaria. For Mayer Hoch – und Tiefbau GmbH, this is the third fast-erecting crane of its type and the fourteenth Liebherr tower crane in total.

Representatives from all three companies involved were present and in good spirits for the handover of the 1000th Liebherr 81 K.1 fast-erecting crane, which took place at the medium-sized construction company’s premises. Rupert Wieser, sales director for Liebherr Tower Cranes, travelled to Ruhpolding in Bavaria with regional sales manager Alexander Beck. Ralf Tradler, managing director of Liebherr-Werks dealer Tradler Baumaschinen GmbH, treated guests to a Bavarian breakfast to celebrate. “I was in my car on my way to a construction site inspection when I got the call from Tradler, and was pretty surprised,” recalls Michael Mayer, managing director of Mayer Hoch – und Tiefbau GmbH, on receiving the good news, adding, “That was quite something.”

The 81 K.1, the third for Mayer, is a perfect addition to the fleet belonging to the building and civil engineering company. Mayer focuses on quality in everything that he does, and this is one of the reasons he is impressed by Liebherr tower cranes. “Our oldest Liebherr crane is a 63 K from 1986,” says Mayer. For him, a limited-edition K crane model from Liebherr is the icing on the cake.

The day after handover, the new fast-erecting crane was already on its way to the construction site “Am Stadtwald” in Traunreut, in the Chiemgau region, where a residential complex with underground parking is expected to be completed by 2022. In addition to the crane’s six-tonne max. load capacity and 48-metre radius, it was also Mayer’s positive experiences with his two existing 81 K.1 cranes that proved decisive for the purchase. For him, the most exciting project so far with a crane of this type was the construction of a 655-space car park, using what was then his first 81 K.1. Clever placement of the crane meant that the entire construction site was serviceable with just one machine.

Mayer Hoch – und Tiefbau GmbH was founded in 1932 and is now managed by third and fourth generation family members. According to handwritten documents, the business relationship between Liebherr-Werks dealer Tradler and the building contractor Mayer goes back to the 1960s. Today, Mayer Hoch – und Tiefbau GmbH has around 90 employees, and, including four other group companies, an overall total of around 150.
