Product Cyber Security Developer - Mining TrucksNewport News, VA
The Product Cyber Security Engineer works closely with other Engineering personnel in the design of technology systems to address security threats to the operation and support of large mining haul trucks. This engineer performs difficult assignments requiring considerable initiative, resourcefulness, and design expertise. In addition, the engineer exercises independent judgment in selecting and interpreting data based on knowledge of design intent, provides advice and guidance and works with other departments to provide engineering documentation and information. The Product Cyber Security Engineer is responsible to ensure that products developed meet the required technical specifications.
Responsibilities
- Identify cyber security threats and develop suitable countermeasures including coordination of implementation.
- Conduct workshops and actively lead projects to analyze the effectiveness of cyber security measures implemented on mining haul trucks and associated systems.
- Participate in company-wide working groups on the topic of security and further development of security standards as applied to mining haul trucks and associated systems.
- Develop strategies to mitigate and manage identified threats by evaluating trends.
- Work with other Engineers and Software Developers to create software and supporting documentation for mining haul trucks and associated systems with a focus on cyber security.
- Improve and harmonize cyber security measures and methods for all design groups within the company.
- Mentors other engineers on cyber security related topics.
- Discusses technical concepts with non-technical users, stakeholders, and management.
- Interfaces with other groups to assist in creating specifications that define embedded system software requirements for mining haul truck functions or supporting tools/software.
- Review and develop software lifecycle processes with a focus on cyber security (CI/CD pipelines, etc.)
- Design, implement and enforce high-class security concepts in connected systems and telematic products.
- Prepare and support early prototyping of various connectivity standards and upcoming IoT technologies.
- Participates in Engineering Development Program.
Competencies
- Education and Experience: Bachelor’s degree (BSEE/EET, BSCE, BSCS or similar) with 5+ years of cybersecurity experience in an engineering environment; or equivalent combination of education and experience. Specialist knowledge of security standards, security frameworks, cloud environments and IoT.
- Ability to conduct threat analysis.
- Knowledge of the latest software architecture principles and practices in embedded software.
- Knowledge of the Windows and Linux operating systems.
- Knowledge of Networking and System Administration.
- Knowledge and understanding of cyber threats.
- Knowledge of state of the art IoT and cloud security practices.
- Knowledge of current trends in Artificial Intelligence (AI).
- Knowledge of communication protocols (ex. UDP, TCP/IP, CAN, J1939, etc.).
- Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance manuals, procedures, and software specifications.
- Ability to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form.
- Experience with working in an Agile/Scrum environment.
- Ability to write specifications that define & describe software function.
- Knowledge of project management tools (ex. Microsoft Project).
- Is expected to travel nationally and internationally up to 20% to customer or supplier sites.
- Ability to complete and maintain mine certifications or safety training such as Mine Safety and Health Administration (MSHA) hazard training.
- Ability to obtain and maintain driver’s license and passport.
