Mammoet adds Liebherr LTM 1400-7.1 mobile crane to its fleet in Ludwigshafen
- Mammoet Deutschland significantly extends its crane capacity upwards at its site in Ludwigshafen
- The new Liebherr 400-tonne crane can meet higher customer demands
- Good Liebherr service one of the main reasons behind the Mammoet purchase
Mammoet Deutschland GmbH took delivery of a new LTM 1400-7.1 in November. This Liebherr 400-tonne mobile crane significantly extends the company's crane capacity at its site in Ludwigshafen as previously a 200-tonne mobile crane was the largest in the fleet. The new crane will enable the company to meet its customers' demands, particularly for work in the chemicals industry. The main reasons behind the decision to buy the new crane were the good experience with an LTM 1400-7.1 which Mammoet has been operating in Leuna 2008 and the reliable service provided by Liebherr.
At its site in Ludwigshafen, Mammoet is a contract partner of BASF for mobile crane work in chemical plants. Previously a Liebherr LTM 1200-5.1 with a load capacity of 200 t was the largest crane in the fleet. Mammoet has now invested in a 400-tonne crane to meet increased customer demands. Hans-Werner Springstein, Manager Crane Work and Quality Management Officer, explains: "The Liebherr LTM 1400-7.1 is the best in its class. We have had good experience with an identical crane which we bought in 2008. The crane has very good load capacity values, a 60 m telescopic boom and can be set up quickly at the site. The reducible ballast radius is perfect, particularly when operating in constricted sites in chemical plants. It can also be used very practically as a crane in the next lower load capacity class".
However, Mammoet also plans to use the crane outside the chemicals industry, for example for repairing wind turbines, building steel bridges and assembling prefabricated components. To enable it to cover a wide range of work, the new crane was purchased with a full set of equipment including an 84 m luffing jib.
Another important criterion behind Mammoet's decision to buy the LTM 1400-7.1 was the renowned good service provided by Liebherr. "If there is a problem, Liebherr is there to help straight away. The high availability of the cranes is enormously important, particularly for jobs in the chemicals industry", explains Hans-Werner Springstein.

The division also completes modification work in petrochemical plants and rents cranes to companies in a very wide range of industries. The company has a workforce of 180 in Germany and a fleet of approximately 50 cranes, more than half of which have been supplied by Liebherr.
