100-tonne crane for its 100th anniversary: Bruns takes delivery of a Liebherr LTM 1100-5.3
- Bruns celebrates its centenary
- With a Liebherr LTM 1100-5.3 mobile crane for its Hamburg location
- Maximum mobility thanks to low axle loads and a width of just 2.55 metres
Bruns, based in Lüneburg, is celebrating its 100th anniversary this year. Wilhelm Bruns founded a building construction business in 1924. In 1967, Bruns Kranvermietung GmbH was founded with its first mobile crane. In 2002, Bruns acquires Alex Grund GmbH Kranarbeiten und Transporte and is thus also represented with a location in Hamburg. A new Liebherr LTM 1100-5.3 mobile crane was delivered there at the beginning of April.
"Of course, it's a perfect fit that we're taking delivery of a 100-tonne crane for our 100th anniversary. The LTM 1100-5.3 offers us exactly what we need: maximum mobility thanks to its low axle loads and width of just 2.55 metres. That's ideal in a big city like Hamburg," explains Wilhelm Bruns, the third-generation managing director of the family business. "At our subsidiary Alex Grund GmbH in Hamburg, the new LTM 1100-5.3 has replaced an LTM 1095-5.1, which has provided us with reliable service for 12 years."
High mobility thanks to flexible axle loads
When it comes to flexible axle loads, the Liebherr LTM 1100-5.3 sets new standards. With 0.8 tonnes of ballast, it reaches a total weight of 44 tonnes with axle loads of 9 tonnes. With 4.4 tonnes of ballast, it can travel with 10 tonnes of axle load and a total weight of 48 tonnes. With an axle load of 12 tonnes, the 100-tonne crane can carry up to 16.9 tonnes of counterweight, which equates to 75 per cent of the maximum ballast of 22.5 tonnes. This allows the new LTM 1100-5.3 to perform the majority of its jobs as a taxi crane without additional ballast transport. Another highlight of the LTM 1100-5.3 is the new LICCON3 crane control in conjunction with the new Liebherr cab design.
A Liebherr customer for three years
in 2021, Bruns Kranvermietung GmbH purchased its first Liebherr mobile crane, an LTM 1070-4.2. "The mobility, flexibility and technical innovations on Liebherr's 70-tonne crane convinced us to buy it. Simpler driving permits with a 10-tonne axle load and the VarioBase® variable supporting base were major criteria behind our decision to order our first Liebherr mobile crane. Since then, we have ordered all our cranes from Liebherr. Liebherr has the right products for our fleet and has shaped developments in the mobile crane market. We are very satisfied," says Wilhelm Bruns.
For over a century, Bruns has proven that virtues such as diligence and reliability lead to success. Wilhelm Bruns says: "You have to adapt to change. With courage, flexibility, new ideas and a certain amount of cleverness, we have worked day in, day out to move our company forward."
